Ryan Fitzpatrick’s Buccaneers Jersey Arrives At Hall Of Fame A Day After Being Benched

It'd be an understatement to say that Tampa Bay Buccaneers' quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has experienced one of the biggest four-week roller coaster rides we've ever seen.

The 35-year-old career journeyman led the Bucs to a surprising 2-0 start, tossing eight touchdowns in that span. Fitzpatrick also became the first NFL player ever to toss 400 passing yards in three consecutive games, in their Week 3 home loss contest the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced that they received Fitzpatrick's game-worn jersey against the Steelers on Monday. The timing couldn't be more strange, since it came a day after Fitzpatrick was benched in favor of Jameis Winston in Sunday's ugly 48-10 loss to the Chicago Bears.

How often does a quarterback go from making history - thus having his jersey sent to the Hall of Fame - to the bench in just one week? Fitzpatrick, indeed, has experienced one of the greatest up-and-down rollercoaster rides any NFL player can ever endure.

The Buccaneers are Fitzpatrick's fifth team since the 2011 season, and he's had a strange habit of starting out red hot through the first few weeks, only to falter down the stretch. As it turns out in 2018, Fitzpatrick just isn't able to retain 'Fitz Magic' throughout the course of an entire season.

Winston was suspended the first three games for an alleged groping incident, leaving Fitzpatrick as Tampa's starter for three weeks. Winston came on in relief and completed 16 passes for 145 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Bucs' loss moved them to 2-2, one game behind the New Orleans Saints in the NFC South Division.

If Winston struggles or gets injured, the Buccaneers could roll with Fitzpatrick again this season. But for now, the lone bright spot of his 2018 season will simply be the fact Fitzpatrick had his jersey sent to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
