Ric Flair Calls Out Social Media, Clarifies Statement About Being Invited By WWE To The Royal Rumble
Last week, Ric Flair mentioned, "I'll be there" when talking about The Royal Rumble and WWE. The insinuation seemed to be that he would be at the show, even saying he wasn't told not to talk about upcoming plans with WWE when asked to clarify his statements by To Be The Man co-host, Conrad Thompson. As per a follow-up statement by Flair, it apparently meant he would be in San Antonio during Rumble weekend, independent of WWE. He added, "By the way, of course, social media screwed that up..."
Flair clarified on this week's show, "I have not been invited to the Rumble. I am going to San Antonio to sign autographs separately, on the day of the Rumble. I was not invited to the Rumble. However, if they want me to put my gear on, like at Last Match, that's fine." Flair did also restate that he has been invited to the 30th-anniversary episode of Raw one week earlier in January 2023 and that he would be present for that event.
It's not surprising the media misread that situation and mistook his statement that he looking forward to the Rumble. Flair is so quick to call out wrestlers and want to get in on trending topics that the assumption is always that he'll wrestle if asked. Even in trying to clarify his earlier statements, he made another comment about possibly putting on his ring gear, even though there's virtually no way the WWE would ask him to. His age and recent history of health issues is a non-starter for WWE but Flair doesn't want people to know that.

Flair Hanging Onto The Business Too Tight
That The Nature Boy seems so quick to tell everyone he's a part of WWE still, even though he was released and not under contract feels a lot like he's holding on too tight and won't let the business go. His propensity to call out the media for making up things when it comes to how he talks about the business is hurting his legacy and while a Royal Rumble appearance would be fun for fans, it's clearly not high on WWE's priority list.
