In 1970 Peter married Lydia Di Leonardo, a bookkeeper that supported him through his early drumming carreer and whom he'd been dating since 1967. Best man at the wedding was New York Dolls' Jerry Nolan who'd been friends with Peter for quite a while. The couple's honeymoon was in England where Peter unsuccessfully tried to get the gig as Elton John's drummer.
