Named Pendry Manhattan West, the 28-floor building will host 164 guestrooms including 30 suites. Brookfield's information page on the project in addition to initial building permit filings indicated that there would be 45 condos integrated into the tower. All traces of a residential component have since disappeared, likely due to Manhattan's slowing condo market and growing inventory of unsold apartments on the west side. Manhattan West's more ambitious rival, Hudson Yards, currently has two buildings selling condos: Fifteen Hudson Yards (one-beds from $3.4M) and 35 Hudson Yards (3-beds from $7.85M).

Like the other three ground-up towers comprising Manhattan West, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill are the architects of the Pendry Hotel. Renderings show a simple rectangular tower clad in a fluted glass curtain wall along its north and south elevations. A recent visit to the 8-acre superblock and a report from its builders, Pavarini McGovern, confirms the Pendry has topped out and its waveform facade is about halfway up the 281-foot-tall tower. Completion is anticipated for early 2021.

The hotel's amenities will include a signature restaurant, a lounge with an open-air bar, a meeting room and an event space. According to the site plan, a landscaped passageway will separate the tower from Amazon- and Whole Foods-housing 5 Manhattan West. It will lead to the center square of the development, a two-acre plaza encircled by shops and restaurants.

Alan J. Fuerstman, founder, chairman and CEO of Montage International, which owns Pendry, said, “New York City is a destination we have had our eyes set on for many years... We look forward to becoming a centerpiece of the community through the hotel’s design, amenities and signature service we will provide at Pendry Manhattan West.”

Ric Clark, senior managing partner and chairman, Brookfield Property Group and Brookfield Property Partners, concurred, “The Manhattan West vision of creating a vibrant, 24/7, work-live-play destination comes together with the addition of Pendry Manhattan West to the complex’s expansive list of modern amenities. We are thrilled to partner with Pendry Hotels because of its strong, aspirational, design- and service-centric brand that will deliver a uniquely modern sensibility and help Manhattan West come alive.”

Pendry Manhattan West will be only part of the massive complex’s 844 residential units and more than six million square feet of state-of-the-art Class-A office space. Accenture, Amazon, Ernst & Young, J.P. Morgan Chase, and the National Hockey League are just some of the tenants that have already signed on.

Manhattan West will also include an urban plaza with landscaped gardens and street front retail. The 250,000 square feet of retail at Manhattan West will be anchored by Peloton, which is creating “Peloton Studios,” a 35,000-square-foot state-of-the-art flagship location, and Whole Foods, which is creating a 60,000-square-foot culinary destination. Located adjacent to the soon-to-be-redeveloped Empire Station/Penn Station Complex and the new 7-train station at Hudson Yards, Manhattan West will be very accessible from all parts of the Tri-state area.

In addition, today Brookfield Properties announced that the law firm Cravath, Swaine & Moore LLP will anchor Two Manhattan West, a 58-story, 1.9-million-square-foot encore slated to rise next to the current supertall tower. The major law firm expects to move in by 2024, further solidifying the Manhattan West complex as both a vital connector between the Penn Station Corridor and Hudson Yards, and a vibrant destination in its own right.
