Paul Heyman Compares Cody Rhodes To Stone Cold Steve Austin

Paul Heyman believes that there are a lot of similarities to be drawn between what Cody Rhodes is doing now and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

There are more and more professional wrestlers out there right now who are proving that WWE does not have to be the be all and end all of their careers. Promotions such as New Japan and Ring Of Honor are getting bigger and bigger and there is a way to make a great living and a name for yourself on the independent circuit. One man who is proving that tenfold is Cody Rhodes.

The former ROH World Champion was given poor gimmick after poor gimmick in WWE, finishing up with the role of Stardust. Eventually Rhodes decided that he could do better for himself in the business and ventured out on his own. It was a risk but it is one that has massively paid off. Rhodes continues to go from strength to strength and has a marquee match with Kenny Omega coming up this weekend.

Everyone in the wrestling business - except for Disco Inferno - are praising Rhodes for his work since leaving WWE and Paul Heyman is the latest to sing his praises. While talking to NBC Sports the advocate likened The American Nightmare's current run to the one Steve Austin went on when he was let go from WCW. He spoke about bringing Austin in to ECW and that he needed to really find himself.

"Cody has found himself in that very same way in that his angst over not being able to bring forward what he envisioned for himself in WWE has propelled him to new heights," Heyman told NBC. It's high praise indeed and exactly what Rhodes wanted from a life away from WWE. He believed that he had more to give and he has proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

What's next for Rhodes, though? In his immediate future, there's the match against Omega, of course, and then the issues with the Bullet Club, but could we ever see him in WWE again? If that does happen, he won't have to wear the Stardust make-up, and considering the work he has done in the almost two years he has been away, he may even return as a World Championship contender.
