Mustafa Ali Reveals That He Was Meant To Win Money In The Bank In 2019

WWE Superstar Mustafa Ali has revealed that he was booked to win the 2019 men's Money In The Bank ladder match, but plans were changed at the last minute due to the surprise return of Brock Lesnar.

Ali spilled the beans during a recent interview with Alex McCarthy of talkSPORT.

“We got nothing other than ‘you’re in the match’ the week-of [the MITB match]. Day-of, I’m winning it! Man, this is my moment, this is everything I’ve been working for, I can’t believe it, this is awesome," Ali recalled.

“Then the match is about to start, so the entrances have started. I may be wrong about this, but Baron Corbin is making his entrance and I’m soon to be making my entrance, and that’s when I get pulled that I have to go see the boss," he continued.

Ali then described his brief meeting with Vince McMahon in which the WWE CEO informed Ali that plans had changed. McMahon told Ali the new plan and Ali decided not to argue, since the match was about to start.

As you might recall, Ali was on the verge of grabbing the briefcase before he was removed from the equation by a returning Brock Lesnar, who was a surprise entrant in the match. Brock ended up grabbing the briefcase and winning the match in the process, crushing Ali's hopes and dreams.

Ali likes to look on the bright side, however.

“At the end of the day, it worked right? People are still talking about that moment years later. Everyone’s all sad about it and it’s like ‘guys, we got Brock listening to the briefcase like it's a boombox and dancing.’ I gave you that. I gave you that gift! I should get royalties off that shirt cause he had the boombox shirt. So technically, Mustafa Ali is the guy that gave you that amazing gift.”

It's not the first time that Ali has had the rug pulled out from under him. As we previously reported, he was also booked in a program with Kofi Kingston that was intended to have a big WrestleMania payoff, but once again, plans changed.
