Mrs Maisel Detail Means Susie Has To Be Sophie Lennon’s Manager Again

Susie can't get rid of Sophie Lennon in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4. Here's the detail that Sophie knew could keep Susie stuck as her manager.

Warning: SPOILERS for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4, Episode 4 - "Interesting People On Christopher Street"

To Susie Myerson's (Alex Borstein) chagrin, she's still Sophie Lennon's (Jane Lynch) manager in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4 because of one particular detail. Of course, Susie's first and most important client is still Miriam Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan), who is licking her wounds after being fired as the opening act for Shy Baldwin (Leroy McClain). While Susie is currently at a loss on how to rebuild Midge's stalled stand-up comedy career, her other client, Sophie, refuses to part ways with Myerson.

Susie became Sophie's manager in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3 after Myerson told Lennon off following the arthritis and rheumatism telethon Miriam and Sophie performed at. Susie's defense of Midge impressed the famous comedienne because Sophie's representation has never fought for her so passionately. Susie agreed to take Sophie on as a client for the money and Myerson even managed to get Lennon on Broadway starring in Miss Julie opposite Gavin Hawk (Cary Elwes). But Sophie, who is certifiably insane, collapsed under the pressure and turned her opening night into a fiasco. Immediately afterward, Susie fired Sophie as her client, and she visited Lennon in a psychiatric hospital in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4, episode 2, "Billy Jones and the Orgy Lamps" to legally void their business relationship.

However, Susie technically remains Sophie's manager because Lennon didn't properly sign the release form terminating their contract. Instead of her name, Sophie wrote "Lucille F****** Ball" on the bottom line, and Myerson had no choice but to accept it. Sophie may be nuts but, in that instance, she knew exactly what she was doing. Lennon has no intention of letting Myerson fire her as her client, especially after Sophie's publicly ridiculed breakdown on Broadway at the end of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 3. Sophie's previous manager, Harry Drake (David Paymer), dropped her and now, Lennon needs Susie if she's ever going to make a living in stand-up comedy again.

Of course, Susie understands that she is still legally bound to represent Sophie in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4. Soon after the diminutive manager acquired a new Times Square apartment and set up a home office for Susie Myerson and Associates in Mrs. Maisel season 4, episode 4, "Interesting People on Christopher Street," Sophie turned up at her door. No longer the imperious superstar she once was, Sophie revealed that even her faithful butler, Dawes (Frankie Verroca), has left. Despite her abrasive demeanor, Susie has a soft spot and she couldn't turn Sophie away, even though she's well-aware Lennon is a lunatic. However, Susie also senses an opportunity, even if she knows better about Sophie. Myerson impressed the New York theater scene when she got Sophie Lennon a starring role on Broadway, and Harry Drake even praised her for achieving the improbable.

Susie is now trying to realize her dream of turning Susie Myerson and Associates into a success and she knows Miriam can't be her only client. Susie even decided to represent Alfie (Gideon Glick), the strange magician she encountered at a bar. Regardless of her mental illness, Susie realizes that Sophie Lennon is still a star who needs a comeback in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4. Myerson knows that if she can do the improbable once more time and resurrect Sophie's career, Susie Myerson and Associates will be seen as a legitimate agency, and Susie's dreams of becoming a great manager will start to come true.
