Matt Hardy Returns To WWE Ring After Rumored ‘Retirement’

Matt Hardy got physical inside a WWE ring for the first time in two months following talk that he had retired from that side of the business.

It feels as if we were only just getting a taste of Woken Matt Hardy in WWE before the tag team veteran had to step away. Hardy revealed to fans that almost three decades competing in the ring had caused his lower back to begin fusing with his pelvis. Painful and potentially career-ending stuff.

Thankfully, we haven't seen the last of Hardy completely. WWE has reportedly been using him as a producer backstage. We also saw the debut of a House Hardy show on the WWE Network last week. As far as we can tell, it has received glowing reviews from all sides. We certainly enjoyed it.

As it turns out, Hardy might not be done with wrestling inside the ring after all. The Woken One explained on the Chasing Glory podcast that he never said he was retired, and that was extremely evident at a WWE Live Event this past weekend. Hardy came to the ring and got involved with a melee that included the majority of the male roster at a show in Madrid, Spain. You can check it out for yourself below.

Hardy getting involved physically in the ring is the first time he has done anything of the sort for two months. In fact, the last time he wrestled was at a live event on September 16, 2018. After that match, Hardy cut a promo backstage explaining that he had fulfilled all of his contractually obligated dates for WWE and confirmed the rumors about his injury. He also admitted it might be the last time he ever competes in a WWE ring.

It would appear that Hardy will, in fact, wrestle again for WWE. Yes, a run-in along with the rest of the roster is hardly a full match, but it's a lot more physical than we expected Hardy to be getting. Especially so soon after his potential retirement. We hope that Hardy returns to TV soon, at least on a semi-regular basis. Providing he is physically capable and not doing more damage to himself, we look forward to a few more years of The Woken One.
