Mark Henry Explains Why He Can't Wrestle Again

Mark Henry has a decorated legacy in pro wrestling that includes an impressive run as WWE World Heavyweight Champion and winning the ECW Championship, besides joining the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018. That’s in addition to the accomplishments in power lifting that led him to wrestling, including competing in the Olympics. The World’s Strongest Man hasn’t gotten in the ring for AEW, though, and fans shouldn’t expect for him ever to do so.

Mark Henry Has Nerve Damage

Mark Henry discussed on Busted Open Radio (h/t WrestlingINC) that “I got nerve damage is why I don’t wrestle, in my back.” Henry elaborated, “It will just go out, and I’ll be on the ground, and there have been times where I do too much at AEW, and I have to take a wheelchair through the airport, and it sucks because I’m prideful, and I hate it when I can’t walk through the airport.”

Mark Henry Has Value For AEW Outside The Ring

Despite not being capable of safely working matches, Mark Henry remains important as a broadcaster and behind the scenes for AEW where he is a mentor and valuable link to legitimate athletes. Even if he were able to wrestle at this point, he’s the kind of performer probably better suited to staying out of the action at his age in favor leaving the spotlight to younger talents.

Ultimately, it’s unfortunate when any professional wrestler is physically unable to work matches anymore, rather than being able to make their own choices about when to hang up their boots. Just the same, Marky Henry seems content to remain integrally involved in AEW’s business on multiple levels and provide a regular presence on Busted Open Radio, sharing his wisdom with talents and fans alike.
