  • He needs a victory against Fredrick Lawson to rebuild his reputation in the welterweight division.
  • The fight will take place on January 6th and will be streamed live on DAZN.

After a hiatus of over a year, Vergil Ortiz Jr. steps into the ring against Fredrick Lawson. The 23-year-old, boasting 19 knockouts from 19 fights, initially appeared poised to become a genuine contender in the welterweight division. However, recent years have seen him grappling with various health issues, including rhabdomyolysis. Earlier this year, Ortiz was slated to face WBA welterweight champion Eimantas Stanionis, but the bout was canceled three times.

Subsequently, Ortiz moved up to the 154lbs division. Despite being the heavy favorite against Fredrick Lawson, Ortiz requires another victory to initiate the process of rebuilding his reputation after a long layoff. This bout marks Vergil Ortiz Jr.'s debut at super-welterweight.
