LA Knight's Subtle Shot At Kevin Nash On SmackDown Didn't Go Unnoticed

LA Knight is about as popular as a WWE Superstar can be right now. No, WWE doesn't seem to see it, but news Knight signed a long-term extension with the company this week may well signify that is all about to change. The fans are fully behind Knight though and have been for a while, and WWE certainly knows that. That's why Knight is on TV about as often as he possibly can be, coming out to a huge reaction once again on SmackDown this week.

Knight Hits Back At Nash

Knight beat The Miz at Payback last week, but The A-Lister's Oscar-worthy performance against an absent John Cena on Raw suggests Miz wasn't happy with the quality of the referee in that match so their rivalry will likely continue. Knight also seems to be okay with that, addressing what The Miz did during his SmackDown promo on Friday night, but squeezing in a dig at Kevin Nash for good measure.

Nash has been vocal about his feelings towards Knight on his podcast and suffice to say, he's not a fan. Knight hasn't really responded until now, and even Friday's reference was likely one a lot of fans missed because it was a very deep cut. Knight analyzed the opening line of Miz's entrance music 'I came to play'. "Now, if I was a complete moron, I'd say let's look at that adjective, but I'm not a moron, so I'm going to say let's look at that verb, play," Knight said.

Adjective Or Verb?

Knight didn't mention Nash by name, but it's hard to imagine what else he could have been referencing with that particular part of his promo. Back in Nash's early WCW days, the Hall of Famer gave what has gone on to become an infamous interview in which he analyzed the promotion's 'Where the big boys play' slogan, much like Knight's analysis on SmackDown. Nash honed in on the word play, labeling it an adjective. However, as Knight pointed out, the word play is actually a verb.

Nash has taken shots at Knight a few times over the summer, calling out his act as a watered-down version of The Rock. Nash's words, not mine. As for Knight finally caving and taking a shot back, I'm always on the fence about that sort of thing. It was amusing for the small slither of fans who would have understood the reference, but everyone else watching would have had no idea what Knight was talking about. There's also no chance of Knight and Nash ever meeting in the ring, so best to focus on dressing down The Miz or taking shots that can actually lead to rivalries and matches.
