Kofi Kingston Legitimately Hurt Trying To Perform Royal Rumble Spot

The men's Royal Rumble match guarantees a lot of things. Fans getting their hopes up for Superstars who were never going to be in the match, surprise entries that may or may not make up for that false hope, and Kofi Kingston attempting to perform a stunt that defies logic, gravity, or both.

Kofi Kingston's Rumble Spot

Kingston is pretty much guaranteed a spot in the men's Rumble every year based on the stunts he can perform to avoid elimination. From hopping back to the ring on a chair to walking on his hands, there's a reason the former WWE Champion has now been in 15 Rumble matches. Unfortunately, Kingston's customary Rumble spot seemingly didn't go to plan this year.

Moments prior to Kingston being thrown from the ring, his New Day brother Xavier Woods was eliminated. That appeared to be so Woods could strategically place a chair right where Kingston would be thrown. That part of the plan went swimmingly. However, Kingston left the ring with a little more vigor than expected which sent both himself and the chair flying.

That Didn't Go To Plan

Despite the violent collision with the chair, it was still impossible to tell whether Kingston's feet hit the ground. With one of his feet still on the chair when Kingston came to a stop, one of the announcers questioned whether he was out or not. Well, Kingston never returned to the match, and by the time that area of ringside was shown again, neither he nor Woods were anywhere to be seen.

There have been multiple reports online since, including the one from above courtesy of Wrestling Observer's Bryan Alvarez, claiming Kingston's spot definitely did not go to plan. His failure to reappear and no mention of him after would certainly suggest those reports are accurate. It's the second time in two years Kingston's Rumble spot has gone awry. Hopefully he wasn't seriously injured and won't need to spend any time on the shelf.
