Kevin Owens Seemingly Takes Shot At CM Punk Following All Out PPV
The amount of news coming out of the AEW media scrum following the All Out pay-per-view on Sunday is mind-blowing. Between Punk tearing into Colt Cabana and Adam Page, Tony Khan commenting on backstage issues in the company, and a reported altercation between Punk and a couple of EVPs in AEW, the drama seems to be at an all-time high. Even a current WWE star seems to be getting in on the real-life soap opera.
There is reported history between Kevin Owens and Punk dating all the way back to their time together in Ring of Honor. The story apparently goes that Punk had a lot of sway backstage at that time and Owens was trying to work his way up the ladder. Allegedly, Punk didn't like Owens and the fact that he wasn't in great shape, leading to a story that had circulated years back that Punk poked fun at Owens backstage for wearing a t-shirt while wrestling. Owens wrestled in a singlet, went backstage and got in Punk's face saying something to the effect, 'Are you happy now?', something to which Punk didn't appreciate.

That story has survived in wrestling lore for years and when Punk brought up the fact that he's no longer friends with Cabana because he felt he was trying to bring up a buddy to his level in wrestling that didn't want Punk to actually be a main event guy, Owens might have seen that as an opportunity to have some fun. On Twitter, Owens posted a photo of himself wrestling Steve Austin at this past WrestleMania in the main event.
Punk did try to get a match with Austin years back and there's a feeling that maybe Owens posted this photo to rub it in that the match never took place. Owens is also good friends with The Young Buck, who are the AEW stars Punk allegedly had a physical altercation with backstage after the media scrum.
All Of This A Coincidence?
It's certainly possible these two things aren't connected. Owens might simply have been posting a photo of his match with Austin, thinking back to that moment and wanting to share it with his followers. But, the timing is incredibly fascinating. There's a history between Owens and Punk, The Young Bucks and Owens are close and Punk commented about guys being in the main event. Seems like the timing was just right to send a not-so-subtle message.
