John Cena Hints At Returning To WWE Soon
With three major WWE pay-per-view events right around the corner, this summer would certainly mark an ideal time to bring back John Cena.
The 45-year-old wrestler-turned-actor has worked in WWE on a very limited basis since making a successful career change over to Hollywood. Cena's last WWE match took place at SummerSlam 2021, where he fell to Roman Reigns in an electrifying back-and-forth Universal Championship bout.
During an interview with Adam Glyn of Adam's Apple (h/t Fightful.com), Cena revealed that he hopes to be back in WWE soon (June 27, 2002 will mark the 20-year debut of his company), noting that he's "been gone for" a while now.
"I know in WWE, I turn 20 pretty soon so that's a pretty big thing," Cena explained. "From a pretty storied class of folks Batista, Randy Orton, Brock, we kind of all turn 20 this year, so I'm aware that that's coming around the corner, and who knows, but it's one of those hard truths to bear. There's a lot of cool stuff going on, and I don't want to say no to any opportunities that are on my doorstep. So I don't know when I'll be back. But hopefully, it's soon. I've been gone for too long."

WWE loves to stack up the card for marquee pay-per-views, so it wouldn't be a surprise if they brought in Cena for one (or more) of the upcoming events. The company will need to sell a lot of events for the upcoming stadium shows, which are Money in the Bank 2022 on July 2 (Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada), SummerSlam 2022 on July 30 (Nissan Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee) and Clash at the Castle on Sept. 3 (Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales).
Reigns, being the top star in the company right now, will likely work all three of those shows. Perhaps WWE will consider pitting The Tribal Chief against Cena yet again as the latter pushes for lucky world title reign No. 17.
Cena's Quest For World Championship No. 17
It's been nearly five and a half years since Cena last held a world championship. He defeated AJ Styles at Royal Rumble 2017 to become a 16-time World Champion, tying Ric Flair for the most reigns ever. Fast forward to May 2022, and Cenation continues to await the record-breaking 17th reign. Cena probably won't ever work full-time in WWE again, but it sure would be kind of WWE to give him that long-awaited 17th World Championship reign. He carried the torch as the company's top star for a decade, and one last WWE or Universal Championship reign is all he needs to complete a near-flawless career.
