Gunther Loses His First Televised Singles Match On WWE's Main Roster On Raw
Gunther is on quite the run in WWE right now. Not only because he is on the cusp of becoming the longest reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, but also because since debuting on the main roster in April 2022, he is yet to lose a televised singles match. That was until this past Monday on Raw when The Ring General lost to an unexpected opponent. Chad Gable now has that very impressive feather in his cap, beating the count at ringside to ensure he picked up a win over the Intercontinental Champion via count out.
Gunther Has Been Beaten
No, it wasn't a pinfall or a submission and yes, it does mean Gunther is still champion even though the title was on the line. It's still a huge win for Gable though. Not only is it the first time Gunther has been on the losing end of any televised singles match since his full call-up to the main roster, but it's also one of the only times he has lost one-on-one on the main roster at all. The only other defeats he has suffered were DQs at live events.

As for the last time Gunther lost a singles match in any capacity, you need to go all the way back to his final match in NXT before being properly called up. A showdown with Bron Breakker on the April 5, 2022 episode of NXT, shortly after Breakker won back the NXT Title. WWE has kept Gunther undefeated since then, again barring a handful of live event DQs and losses where others have taken the fall in tag matches.
Gunther's Run So Far
Even though Gunther has been built and framed as one of the most dominant forces in WWE more recently, it has been suggested that Vince McMahon wasn't entirely sold on The Ring General. Despite already having won the IC Title, it has been rumored that prior to the scandal revolving around allegations made against the chairman which seemingly led to his shortlived retirement, McMahon planned on effectively burying Gunther. Now the champ is at the top of his game and is in the discussion surrounding who will be the Superstar to eventually dethrone Roman Reigns.
All the more reason why despite it only being via count-out, Gable's win on Raw was huge for him. While not confirmed, my guess is it leads to a rematch at Payback, title on the line again, perhaps in a no DQ situation so count outs aren't in play. That'll give Gable the chance to hand Gunther his first pinfall defeat on WWE's main roster.
