GTA 5: Trevor Actually Has A Good Side

Although Trevor is undoubtedly the most chaotic and violent GTA 5 character, there are a few instances where he shows a little compassion and loyalty.

Trevor Philips of Grand Theft Auto 5 is notorious for being one of the most violent and evil characters in the GTA series, but there's evidence that he has some good in him as well. Of course, there's no way to fully redeem Trevor's constant chaotic behavior. However, there seems to be much more to him than the surface-level brutality and anger that he constantly displays.

Trevor Philips is one of three protagonists in GTA 5, along with Michael and Franklin. Trevor's relationship with Michael is tense and often volatile, with the two of them threatening to kill each other multiple times throughout the story. Although Trevor spends most of GTA 5 being furious with Michael, there are a few instances where he shows how much he cares and that he's still loyal despite the betrayal. Trevor also has interactions with a few other characters where he shows a bit of decency.

Trevor's good side is only shown to a few characters throughout the story in GTA 5, and it's fairly infrequent when compared to the mounds of chaos he produces. The scarcity and contrast to his normal behavior make Trevor's few good moments stand out as memorable scenes in GTA 5. These moments may not be as painfully unforgettable as Trevor stomping a man to death or performing torture for the fun of it, but they serve to make him a bit more dynamic and interesting as a person.

Trevor Immediately Helps Michael In GTA 5

After learning that Michael went into witness protection in GTA 5 and isn't actually dead, Trevor immediately heads for Los Santos to confront him. However, the conversation is swiftly interrupted by Michael's family drama. Trevor immediately sets his feelings aside to help Michael find his daughter Tracey before she embarrasses herself at a Fame or Shame audition. When Michael's anger gets the best of him and he goes after Lazlow, Trevor supports him and joins in with intimidating and exacting revenge on him. Even after the ordeal is over, Trevor gives Michael space to deal with his family issues instead of demanding answers or responding to his betrayal with violence.

No matter how hurt or irate Trevor was about Michael faking his death in GTA 5, he couldn't let anyone wrong Tracey because he cares deeply about the De Santa family. He even mentions to Lazlow that he held Tracey on his lap when she was young and he'd never let anyone wrong her. As an act of revenge - and also as a means of ensuring Tracey's audition doesn't air - he records an embarrassing video of Lazlow and threatens to share it. Trevor clearly sees that Michael's family has a lot of problems, and him backing off shows that he wants them to work out their issues.

Trevor Never Gave Up The Search For Brad In GTA 5

Trevor has a close relationship with Brad prior to the events in GTA 5. Trevor receives communications from Brad before he discovers the truth about the circumstances surrounding Michael's faked death. Along with witness protection for Michael, the FIB cover-up included a fake story about Brad being in prison and being denied visitation rights. Later on in GTA 5, Trevor comes to the realization that Brad was buried in Michael's place, and the letters and emails he'd been receiving were faked. Trevor is expectedly furious with Michael and feels betrayed all over again, but instead of killing him, he simply refuses to speak to him. This changes by the end of the game, though there's still plenty of noticeable tension between the two when they do start speaking again.

GTA 5's Trevor shows the fierce loyalty he has to his old crew to the point that it's clear he considered Michael and Brad to be his family. Despite his violent nature and frequent outbursts, Trevor still seeks human connection on some level. Trevor expresses his pain through anger when he finds out that Brad is dead - a reasonable reaction, all things considered - but he still keeps himself from killing Michael, as he also cares for him despite his betrayal. Throughout the story in GTA 5, he clings to Michael, and then Franklin, by asserting himself into both of their lives.

Trevor Lets Mr. K Live In GTA 5

Arguably the most brutally uncomfortable and unnecessary scene in GTA 5 is when Trevor is tasked with torturing FIB prisoner, Mr. K, for information. Trevor has no problem torturing the prisoner in various ways, but it's what happens after that shows he has some decency. Once the FIB has the information they need, Trevor is ordered to kill Mr. K, but he unexpectedly decides to take him to the airport so he can flee the country and share his story. Trevor ignores Mr. K's pleas to return to his family, but he also knows that going back will get him killed. It's a small act of mercy that by no means makes up for the pain Trevor inflicted, but it's still better than killing him.

GTA 5 Shows Trevor's Softer Side With Patricia Madrazo

What starts out as a kidnapping in GTA 5 turns into a loving relationship between Trevor and Patricia Madrazo. Trevor sees GTA 5's Martin Madrazo mistreating Patricia, and also comments later that he better not cheat on her again. Although he technically kidnaps her because he feels he was being underpaid by Martin, Patricia stays with him without making any sort of attempt to escape. In fact, throughout Patricia's time with Trevor, she seems to take on the role of caretaker as she cleans up his trailer and watches out for his well-being by stopping him from sniffing gasoline. Even when Michael and Trevor both leave the trailer, Patricia sees them off telling them to have fun then goes back inside instead of trying to leave.

Regardless of how the relationship initiated, Patricia is the person that Trevor is kindest to in GTA 5, and he mentions multiple times that he respects her. He defends the relationship to Michael but ultimately lets her go claiming he would never hold her back. Although seemingly incapable of love, Trevor finds a way to build a relationship with Patricia that's healthier than any of his other relationships, and he accepts that his time with her needs to end without spiraling into a state of uncontrolled fury. Trevor doesn't have much character growth throughout the story in Grand Theft Auto 5, but he does show a level of deeper emotion that displays his less evil side.
