First 10 Wrestlers To Defeat The Big Show (In Chronological Order)

The Big Show is one of the most notable big men in the professional wrestling business, especially during his time in WCW and WWE. He was understandably compared to Andre the Giant when he first arrived in the industry, even being booked as his relative in the earlier days of his career.

Big Show was never as dominant as Andre the Giant was during his legendary career, but he was still often a hard man to beat, especially at the start of his time in the business. Over the years, Big Show would become more beatable, but it is interesting to look back at his introduction to the business and who were the first 10 individuals to defeat him in a match. Disqualifications and countouts won’t be included, and this will look at singles matches.

11 Hulk Hogan

The very first man who defeated Big Show decisively in his professional wrestling career wasn’t some up and comer who would have benefitted from overcoming an unstoppable giant, but it was Hulk Hogan, the man who had gotten the most famous victory over a big man ever when he defeated Andre The Giant at WrestleMania 3.

He first defeated Big Show in a steel cage match at SuperBrawl VI, and then again at Hog Wild 1996 when the pair fought for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

10 Lex Luger

Lex Luger vs The Giant Starrcade

It wasn’t too much longer until Big Show was overcome again, this time it was against Lex Luger at Starrcade 1996. It must be said that Show’s early losses were mostly kept for PPVs, which did make it feel like a big deal to defeat him.

Luger showcased his strength in a big way here in front of a raucous fanbase who loved him. It was again another example of a powerful babyface overcoming the monster heel, and the match was actually pretty good.

9 Kevin Nash

Big Show vs. Kevin Nash - Souled Out 1998

Another towering big man in WCW was Kevin Nash, and he became the third man to defeat Big Show in a singles match. It took place at nWo Souled Out in 1998, after Big Show had parted ways with the faction.

It must be said that it wasn’t a clean victory though, as interference from the nWo was rampant in this one. Hulk Hogan essentially helped to make it a 2-on-1 handicap match, leading to Nash hitting one of the scariest powerbombs of all time to pick up the win.

8 Sting

Sting vs The Giant Great American Bash

Sting and Big Show were reigning as the WCW World Tag Team Champions in June of 1998, and they would go on to battle in the main event of Great American Bash for the privilege of choosing a new partner for their tandem due to the two not wanting to team together.

Unlike most WCW events at the time, this saw a clean finish with Sting defeating Big Show in just over five minutes to close out the show. It was a short match which didn’t really feel like a main event in truth.

7 Goldberg

Giant-Goldberg-Jackhammer-WCW-Nitro

Goldberg was still on a roll towards the end of 1998. He was now reigning as the undefeated WCW World Heavyweight Champion, and was faced up against one of his most challenging opponents yet - Big Show. The pair had battled before, but Goldberg had only managed DQ wins.

In the main event of Nitro on November 23, Goldberg ran through Show in a dominant match, hitting one of the biggest and most impressive jackhammers of all time. He defeated Big Show in 90 seconds in perhaps Show’s most one-sided loss of his whole career.

6 Diamond Dallas Page

DDP defeating The Giant Starrcade 1998

Big Show’s last ever decisive singles loss in WCW took place at Starrcade 1998 against Diamond Dallas Page, with this loss proving that he was pretty much done and dusted as a top star in the company.

It followed a typical underdog vs. big man formula, and it worked pretty well. DDP hit a great Diamond Cutter for the victory, pretty much sending Show out of the company as he went on to sign with WWE.

5 Steve Austin

Steve Austin vs Big Show

Big Show signed with WWE and debuted in 1999, but it wasn’t long until he lost his first match with the company - a stark contrast to his introduction to WCW a few years prior. On an episode of Monday Night Raw on the Road to WrestleMania, Show faced the number one guy in the company at the time, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, in the main event.

It was a fun sprint overall, and better than some of Show’s latter work in WCW. There was some chaos ahead of WrestleMania so it wasn’t totally clean, but it was still a shock to see Show lose so quickly into his WWE career.

4 Mankind

Mankind v Big Show Backlash 1999 Cropped

Big Show feuded with Mankind in his first few months in WWE, acting as a major hurdle for the babyface to overcome. At Backlash 1999, Mankind bounced back from a non-clean finish in their WrestleMania clash to defeat Big Show in a Boiler Room Brawl.

It was a brutal match which saw blood, glass, and more, with it feeling as though the pair truly hated one another. Show was in Mankind’s world with all the hardcore brawling, and it led to a loss.

3 Kane

Big Show v Kane King of The Ring 1999 Cropped

At King of the Ring 1999, Big Show entered his first KOTR tournament, and looked to find some momentum with a victory. He came up against fellow big man Kane in the first round, and he would lose before he even got going in the tournament.

It was a terrible match, with Kane holding Big Show in a choke hold for what felt like an eternity, leading to an uninterested audience. Kane would then strike Show with a chair, getting a dirty victory.

2 The Rock

The Rock was one of The Big Show’s more prominent rivals during the Attitude Era, with Show acting as his foe in the lead up to WrestleMania 16.

Big Show’s first loss to The Rock didn’t come on PPV though, nor did it come on Raw or SmackDown. Instead, Big Show lost to The Rock on a house show.

1 Triple H

Triple H WWE Championship Celebration

The tenth man to defeat Big Show was Triple H, who defeated Big Show for the WWE Championship on an episode of Monday Night Raw on January 3, 2000.

With the help of DX allies and Stephanie McMahon, Triple H won his second WWE Championship here. This would further the build to a multi-man match at WrestleMania 16 for the WWE Title in the main event.
