Fast X's Gal Gadot Has The Perfect Response To How Gisele Is Still Alive
Fast X star Gal Gadot has the perfect answer as to why Gisele Yashar is still alive in the movie's ending after seemingly dying in Fast & Furious 6.
Summary
- Fast & Furious has a recurring theme of bringing back "dead" characters, like Letty, Han, and now Gisele, which can make their deaths feel weightless.
- The franchise leaves the door open for character returns by not showing a body when they appear to die, allowing for surprise reunions later on.
- Audience reception to these character returns has been mixed, with some feeling that the franchise is being stretched too far and disregarding the impact of death.
Fast X star Gal Gadot has the perfect response to how Gisele Yashar survived the events of Fast & Furious 6. In the sixth installment, the character sacrifices herself to save Han Lue (Sung Kang) and seemingly dies after throwing herself on the airport tarmac. However, at the end of Fast X, it is revealed that Gisele is not only alive and well, but has also been working for Cipher (Charlize Theron), rescuing her and Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) in the movie's epic cliffhanger.
During an interview with GQ, conducted before the start of the SAG-AFTRA strike, for the release of the movie Heart of Stone, Gadot addressed how Gisele is still alive after what happened in Fast & Furious 6. While not giving many details about her character's return, her answer summed up a recurring theme in many Fast & Furious movies. Check out what she said on the matter below:
Did you see a body? I did not see a body. Did you?
The Fast & Furious Saga Always Brings Back "Dead" Characters
Part of the reason why many moviegoers have moved past the Fast & Furious franchise is how they consistently bring back characters who seemingly died some installments ago. First, Letty died in the first act of 2009's Fast & Furious, only for her to come back two movies later. Han Lue also died during the events of The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, which was retconned to include Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) in the mid-credits scene of Fast & Furious 6, but returned for F9: The Fast Saga.
Now, in Fast X, Gisele has returned from the dead, which came shortly after Jakob Toretto (John Cena) sacrificed himself to save Dom (Vin Diesel) and Brian (Leo Abelo Perry) from Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa). In each of these instances, including Jakob's death, the audience members do not see a body, which leaves the door open for their eventual return. After Gisele returns to the franchise and will likely reunite with Han in Fast & Furious 11, Jakob will surely come back to the team in the reported third final installment of Fast X, bringing the saga full circle.
This recurring theme has unfortunately made most of the characters' deaths weightless, especially for the main characters, who learn that their friends have been alive for all of this time when they mourn their loss at the end of their respective movies. These character returns have also been met with mixed reception from the audience, who believe the franchise can be stretched to no end, as fan-favorite characters who were killed come back as if nothing happened. It will be interesting to see if Gadot's Fast X return is further explained in the in-development Dwayne Johnson spinoff, or if she will be saved for the next mainline movie.
