Every Major Character Likely To Join In Season 2

Based on where the story is headed, several characters from Robert Jordan's books are favorites to join Amazon's Wheel of Time show in season 2.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Wheel of Time season 1.

Based on the progression of the story, several characters from Robert Jordan’s books are favorites to join Amazon’s The Wheel of Time show in season 2. Now that the series has moved on from The Eye of the World, it can lean into the challenges that the main characters faced in the second and possibly the third books in Jordan’s award-winning saga. The journey that Moiraine’s group goes on after season 1 could rope in a number of key characters.

Over the course of an eight-episode first season, Amazon’s small-screen adaptation of the Wheel of Time books built a sizable ensemble cast. After assembling a handful of characters from the Two Rivers, Wheel of Time expanded on Moiraine’s group with some important new additions, such as Thom Merrillin (Alexandre Willaume), Loial (Hammed Animashaun), and Min Farshaw (Kae Alexander). It’s also introduced some noteworthy recurring players in the Dragon Reborn saga, including Logain Ablar (Álvaro Morte), Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo), Alanna Mosvani (Priyanka Bose), and more. But despite the number of people viewers met in season 1, Wheel of Time is far from finished with building its cast.

The books show that Wheel of Time still has plenty of characters for Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) and the others to meet. Some are missing characters that the show didn’t find room for in season 1, whereas others simply aren’t supposed to show up until after the visit to the Eye of the World. Either way, Wheel of Time season 2 promises to introduce multiple characters who will be integral to the battle with the Dark One going forward.

Elayne Trakand

Arguably the biggest character to join Wheel of Time in season 2 is already confirmed to be on the way. Played by Ceara Coveney, Elayne Trakand is the daughter-heir of the Kingdom of Andor and one of Rand’s three main love interests. In the books, she met Rand in Caemlyn in The Eye of the World, but the TV version of the story had Rand and Mat (Barney Harris) rendezvous with the rest of the Moiraine’s group in Tar Valon, rather than Caemlyn. It could be that Rand’s visit to Andor’s capital city is being saved for season 2. Once Rand meets her, the show will be free to send her on her Wheel of Time journey. In the books, she’s the third member of an all-female trio that also consists of Egwene al’Vere (Madeleine Madden) and Nynaeve al’Meara (Zoë Robins). The three are considered to be among the most powerful female channelers in Wheel of Time’s world.

The Andorian Royal Family (& Its Allies)

Nearly all the characters associated with Elayne in The Eye of the World went on to play significant roles in the battles ahead. Unless the show deviates from the books and brings in Elayne after she arrives at the White Tower, her introduction should incorporate the other figures tied to the Andorian royal family. When Rand first crossed paths with Elayne, he also became acquainted with Gawyn Trakand and Galad Damodred. The kind and innocent Gawyn is Elayne’s brother and a love interest to Egwene. As for Galad, a character known for always doing what he thinks is right (regardless of the consequences), he’s Elayne’s step-brother and a blood-relative of Moiraine’s. Both Gawyn and Galad went to the White Tower with Elayne, which means that there’s a strong chance they’ll be involved with their stories in Wheel of Time season 2. After all, the White Tower is where they’ll have to go to receive their Aes Sedai training.

There’s also the matter of Elayne and Gawyn’s mother. Morgase Trakand is the queen of Andor and a character who factors heavily into the political side of the conflict in the books. Morgase’s staunchest ally is Tallanvor, the captain of the guards at the royal place and a man who would do anything to keep her safe. Another character in her inner circle is Gareth Bryne, a commander in the Andorian army who later became a part of Siuan’s Wheel of Time arc.

Verin Mathwin

Aes Sedai of the seven ajahs being woven into the Great Tapestry in the opening credits of The Wheel of Time

Wheel of Time provided early introductions for several White Tower characters in season 1. Siuan, Alanna, and Liandrin (Kate Fleetwood) all showed up earlier than expected. One that it didn’t reveal – but is likely to appear in season 2 – is Verin Mathwin of the Brown Ajah. As a character who is often caught daydreaming during serious moments, Verin is typically underestimated by the people around her. Many didn’t realize until later that she’s actually a wise and capable Aes Sedai. In The Great Hunt (the second book in the series), Verin was the Aes Sedai who accompanied the group tasked with finding the Horn of Valere. If the show takes the same route, Verin is sure to be vital to season 2’s story.

Lanfear

First mentioned in Wheel of Time episode 5, the Forsaken are a group of 13 immortal channelers who serve the Dark One. Alongside their master, the Forsaken were imprisoned by the original Dragon. In the books, the Forsaken gradually broke free and emerged as antagonists to the main characters. One in particular, Lanfear, had a large presence in the source material. Often thought of as the strongest female channeler of all time, Lanfear was in love with Lews Therin Telamon thousands of years ago. In The Great Hunt, her attachment to Lews Therin carried over to the Dragon Reborn. Rand being the new object of her affections created all sorts of problems for the main characters in Jordan’s books.

Elaida

Elaida is a member of the Red Ajah and a villain in Wheel of Time. As a Red Sister, Elaida poses a huge threat to Rand. Like Liandrin, Elaida distrusts men and is dead-set on opposing (and gentling) the Dragon Reborn. She’s also a thorn in the side of the Aes Sedai at the White Tower who seek to help him. Since she was important to The Great Hunt and the books that followed, it’s likely she’ll make her first appearance soon. In the books, Rand met Elaida for the first time in The Eye of the World when he was captured by the palace guards at Caemlyn. In the books, she was a leading figure in the conflict that ultimately divided the Aes Sedai and caused a rebellion against the Amyrlin Seat.

Aviendha

According to The Wheel of Time showrunner Rafe Judkins, the show has already cast its Aviendha, one of the principal characters from the books. As mentioned above, there are three women (not including Egwene) who are counted as major love interests to Rand. One (Min) debuted in season 1, with the second (Elayne) to appear in season 2.  Aviendha, a headstrong member of the war-like Aiel race and a character who formed a close bond with Elayne, was the last of the three to enter Rand’s life. Many may have expected her not to appear until season 3, but Judkin’s comment about her casting is a good sign that she’ll enter the picture sooner rather than later.
