Details About Her Dating History

In 2016, Taylor Swift started dating Joe Alwyn, whom she probably met at the Met Gala that year. As Elle noted, Swift's song "Dress" references a first meeting with a new crush that could easily be about Alwyn. After a super public relationship with Tom Hiddleston, Swift was careful to keep this burgeoning romance private. In fact, Alwyn didn't speak about Swift in public until 2018.

Swift and Alwyn lived together throughout the COVID-19 lockdown, during which they learned they made a great professional partnership, too. In the film "Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions" (via Elle), Swift revealed that Alwyn had helped her write some songs on her Folklore album. "So, William Bowery is Joe... as we know," she explained. "Joe plays piano beautifully and he's always just playing and making things up and kind of creating things." She added that Alwyn had written the entire piano part of her duet, "Exile."

However, the couple officially parted ways in early 2023 after six years together. The breakup occurred while Swift was on her Eras Tour. "The relationship had just run its course," a source told Entertainment Tonight. "It's why [Alwyn] hasn't been spotted at any shows." Fans were initially devastated, with many making pilgrimages to Cornelia Street in New York where their relationship had once thrived. However, by late 2023, fans had largely turned on Alwyn after a few hints in Swift's music suggested their relationship had been far from perfect.
