Damian Priest Told If He Blew WrestleMania Match With Bad Bunny, He Was Done
It turned out to be one the best matches over the entire weekend that was WrestleMania 37, but the Bad Bunny and Damian Priest vs. The Miz and John Morrison match had a lot riding on it and it needed to be a success. Specifically, if Priest wasn't able to pull it off and help make Bad Bunny look like a credible star, his career was likely over before it was about to really get started.
Damian Priest spoke with SportingNews.com and noted that his match at WrestleMania had to go well. If it didn't his push as a Raw Superstar was likely over. Moreover, if the match flopped, he was probably done in WWE.
He explained: “A lot of people were honest with me and they told me, ‘Listen, you can’t blow this because if you do, you’re done.’" He understood that with opportunity comes big responsibility and since this was his first big match in WWE and a lot was being invested into Bad Bunny as a celebrity crossover attraction for the show, it had to go well.
As one might imagine, The Miz and John Morrison would have been safe. They are veterans in WWE and wouldn't have felt the wrath of a bad match against a star no one figured would be all that good. Priest would have taken the heat as the new guy. He said, "All I said was you’re giving me the opportunity, I’m going to do everything to my abilities to knock this out of the park."
He noted that he had to put in the work to get the job done and he's glad it paid off. "I think we both delivered so we brought our audience a product worthy of them being entertained and being happy to watch," he said.
It Went Better Than Well
The fact that Bad Bunny was the talk of WrestleMania speaks volumes, not just for the dedication the rapper put in, but that WWE can trust Priest with such a tall task. One would imagine there's a new level of trust he's now earned and certainly a longer leash.
Priest will face The Miz at WrestleMania Backlash on Sunday and is likely to pick up a big win in a LumberJack Match.
