Chris Jericho Wants To Have A Specific Dream Match With Sting
As hard as it may be to believe, Chris Jericho and Sting have never squared off one-on-one.
Both wrestlers have more than 30 decades of professional wrestling on their resumes. They worked together in WCW for several years before Jericho signed with the WWE in 1999.
Now that both wrestlers work in AEW, however, a Jericho vs. Sting dream match is a real possibility.
During an interview with Joseph Staszewski of the New York Post, Jericho was asked if a match with Sting is on his "radar". The former AEW World Champion expressed interest in, noting that it would be a "one-time" showdown:
"Painmaker versus Sting, kind of my alter ego, bat versus bat. It’s all there. Once again, it’s always based on the story. But one thing I’ve done really well since 2016 when I came back to WWE and worked with Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, I concentrated on working with kind of guys from the younger generation because I didn’t want to see another Jericho versus Triple H match for example.
We’ve done it. So Jericho versus Sting for a one-time dream match, I think it would work. I don’t want it to be like WCW in ’96 where it’s (Roddy) Piper versus (Hulk) Hogan, Piper versus (Randy) Savage where it’s just kind of like the same thing."
What kind of match would Jericho want with The Vigilante? One that involves the usage of bats.
"I think the difference is I used the Painmaker when I had the street fight with Darby Allin way back in week three of AEW," Jericho explained. "So I think Painmaker versus Sting, some kind of a match where the bats are involved, I think that would draw. So the answer would be yes, I’d love to do it. Once again, if the story is right I think the pieces are right there. It’s very obvious because I’ve never even been in the ring with Sting. We never even had an in-ring segment or anything in WCW."
Jericho was announced as one of the first major signings by AEW in Jan. 2019. As for Sting, he would make his AEW debut less than two years later at the Winter Is Coming special on Dec. 2.
Sting has been working with TNT Champion Darby Allin since his AEW debut. The two teamed up in Sting's first AEW match at the Revolution pay-per-view on March 7, where they defeated Brian Cage and Ricky Starks in in a cinematic Street Fight.

It's anybody's guess when Sting will wrestle again, but after Revolution, the 62-year-old made it clear that he's interested in doing more of those matches.
Will we get to see Sting vs. Jericho for the first time ever in AEW? Only time will tell, but at least we know that Jericho is interested.
Hopefully It Happens
Jericho and Sting are involved in different feuds right now, but when the opportunity presents itself, hopefully AEW will run this program. A Jericho vs. Sting dream match may not be as enticing in 2021 compared to 10 or 20 years ago, but this is a match that countless fans would love to see. It would be a giant moneymaker for AEW, and it's simply a match that has to happen down the road.
