AEW To Award New Championships To Winners Of Its Owen Hart Tournaments

AEW announced its first-ever Owen Hart tournaments earlier this year, and both the men's and women's competitions are in full swing. Adam Cole was the first wrestler to book a spot in one of the finals on Dynamite this week, beating Jeff Hardy to get there. He will face either Kyle O'Reilly or Samoa Joe in the final. In the women's tournament, Toni Storm, Britt Baker, and Ruby Soho have all booked spots in the semi-finals.

Owen Hart Tournament Titles

Both of the tournament's finals will go down at Double or Nothing, and even though it was implied both will get cups for winning, a new report claims the winners will actually be awarded titles. That's according to Voices of Wrestling which claims two new championships have been made for the winners of the tournaments. One with a black strap, and one with a pink strap.

Martha Hart, who was in attendance on Dynamite to watch the tournaments begin, will be at Double or Nothing to present the winners with the new titles. As for how often we will see these titles, and if they will ever be defended, remains a mystery. It seems more likely that they will fill a similar role to the Dynamite Diamond Ring. Always there, but the only opportunity wrestlers will have to win the new titles is by competing in the Owen Hart tournaments each year.

Trios Titles

What AEW probably doesn't need are two more titles that will be regularly defended and need to be factored into the grand scheme of things all the time. The company already has five championships with a sixth on the way. Tony Khan confirmed earlier this year that Trios Titles will be added eventually, and it appears the roster is being geared up for their arrival. The belief is that the championships will be introduced after Kenny Omega returns.

AEW's association with the Owen Hart Foundation will continue beyond the tournaments. Merch has been made and is available now, and it has also been implied that Hart will be a playable character in AEW's first video game. Speaking of which, despite more information being revealed recently, apparently the relationship between AEW and Yuke's isn't a good one, and it could be a one-and-done situation between the promotion and the developer.
