AEW’s Lack Of Creative Plans For Miro Shows A Crucial Issue With The Company
Quick Links
2022 has been quite an up and down year for AEW, with it perhaps being their most turbulent twelve months to date. The company has received quite a bit of criticism - more so than in the past - and some of that has come down to their booking of certain individuals on the roster. For instance, Miro is someone who, in fairness, has been dealing with his fair share of injuries and other projects, but there has been ample opportunity aside from that to have him featured. It recently came to light that AEW had no creative plans for Miro, which is a shining example of a major problem that they currently have.
AEW Has No Plans For Miro
Although Miro had a very dominant 2021 in AEW, reigning as TNT Champion with perhaps the best gimmick in the entire company, he took some time away. After a brief return to take on Bryan Danielson in the AEW Eliminator Finals, he was absent again for over six months. Miro would briefly return to quality for a shot at the AEW All Atlantic Championship, before having to wait another three months to have a match where he teamed up with Darby Allin and Sting to take on the House of Black.

Four matches. That is all Miro has wrestled in the entire year of 2022, per cagematch.net. Of course, some of this is down to injuries, and some of it is due to him taking time away to film things, but there has also been another problem when it comes to him. According to Fightful Select, AEW simply have no creative plans for Miro. For someone as talented as him, who proved to be one of the most celebrated gimmicks last year, this is just not good enough, and it is a huge shame that he isn’t being utilized in some capacity. This lack in creative plans may be a problem for Miro, but it is also a problem for many others too.
There Are Many Wrestlers Who Don’t Get Enough TV Time In AEW
AEW has a stacked roster full of hugely talented people, but with just three hours of weekly TV, it can be hard to feature the 100+ wrestlers that they have available. With the crossover with other promotions such as DDT, NJPW, Impact, and Tony Khan’s other company ROH, it makes it even harder for some to get even a few seconds of TV time. There are a lot of stories ongoing in AEW right now, but at times, they feel so empty due to some getting just thirty seconds a week to tell a chapter of a rivalry or feud. For instance, the House of Black returned not long ago after an absence, but their presence feels nonexistent outside of a few short promos here and there.

It took weeks for them to finally get a match, and the same can be said for plenty of others up and down the card. The likes of Eddie Kingston, Jungle Boy, Darby Allin, Hook, and others don’t feel as though they have a regular place on television, with their storylines seeming disjointed due to it sometimes feeling like there are gaps of weeks without them being seen. An issue with this is that there is not much explanation to these extended absences as well. Miro’s name is barely ever mentioned, with there being no reasoning behind his several months of not being seen.
AEW Needs To Find A Storyline For Miro
Unfortunately, with Tony Khan doing a lot by himself and also giving the stories which are featured the time they need, it leaves him with little options at times other than to leave people off TV. You’d think it would be a priority to use Miro when he’s available, with even a TNT Title pursuit or short term feud with anyone like Malakai Black, Darby Allin, Keith Lee, Jungle Boy, and more, but with Khan liking to protect individuals, it means that big feuds and matches aren’t regular at times.

Miro is someone who, when he loses, might have his momentum hurt, but surely it would be better than simply doing nothing at all. If he were to fight someone like Jungle Boy, who is currently doing nothing after his feud with Luchasaurus, it feels as though both men would be elevated. If Miro won, Jungle Boy is the type of character to remain as the underdog and keep fighting through adversity. If Miro loses, it propels Jungle Boy to bigger heights, and Miro can become more dangerous in the aftermath of a defeat. Hopefully, with this news emerging, AEW will hurry and find something for Miro. However, this issue still remains for several others, not to mention most of the women’s division too, which is an even bigger problem in itself.
