AEW Dynamite Crushed NXT In Ratings Through PlayStation Vue

After several weeks of intense hype and anticipation, the Wednesday Night Wars began last night - with NXT and AEW Dynamite finally going toe to toe for ratings supremacy.

Dynamite premiered from the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., and it was a show for the ages. Cody and Sammy Guevara put on a flawless opening match, with the former picking up the victory.

Finally, Chris Jericho, Santana and Ortiz went up against Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks. The match saw interference from the likes of Jon Moxley and Dustin Rhodes. Out of nowhere, Jake Hager (known as Jack Swagger in WWE) emerged to help the villains beat down on the good guys.

So how did things go in the first day of the Wednesday Night Wars for both sides, from a ratings standpoint? The full numbers haven't been released yet, but AEW destroyed NXT through a major streaming service.

According to Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Ringside News), AEW had "triple the viewers on PlayStation Vue than NXT." Not only that, but Dynamite was also "the third most-watched show" through PlayStation Vue.

Meltzer did point out that this was a small sample size, however. The full numbers will be released soon, but AEW can at least be satisfied in knowing right now that it was a cakewalk victory though PlayStation Vue.

But no matter who won the ratings war for Wednesday, one has to remember that this is only the first week. Both shows will be making adjustments to their respective products over time, and the storylines and characters will only continue to grow from here. This is only the beginning of the war.

AEW's Early Victory Isn't Surprising

It really isn't surprising to hear that AEW won the ratings battle through the streaming service. Fans are locked in on AEW right now, and many wrestling fans were always going to prioritize the Dynamite premiere over NXT - since the show has been ongoing for several years now. We'll see if Dynamite can continue this momentum going forward, but no doubt the officials and superstars are pleased with their first Wednesday night performance.
