AEW Collision's First Main Event Will Be A Trios Match Featuring CM Punk

Just when you had your weekly wrestling schedule down, squeezing in every show you possibly can, AEW throws Collision into the mix. The promotion's new Saturday show debuts on June 17 meaning this coming Saturday will be the last one for a while that doesn't include live AEW action. Even more exciting, we now know what match will be main eventing that first episode of Collision.

CM Punk And Samoa Joe

It was confirmed last week that CM Punk really will return to AEW for Collision's debut, although that announcement doesn't appear to have had a significant effect on ticket sales. Maybe the announcement that Punk will be in action in Collision's first main event will help as the trios match that will close the first edition of the show has been confirmed.

Tony Khan appeared on Wednesday's Dynamite to hype the first Collision and officially announce what its main event will be. A trios match will headline Collision when it rolls through Chicago with the team of Samoa Joe, Juice Robinson, and Jay White on one side, facing off against the three-man team of FTR and Punk.

Punk Wants To Work With Joe And White

Confirmation that many reports leading into this show and this match were accurate thanks to that announcement. Although there was talk Punk might feud with Chris Jericho upon his return, which might still happen, the two-time AEW Champion apparently lobbied to work with Joe. Reviving one of the most iconic rivalries in ROH history during which Punk and Joe wrestled in some absolutely fantastic matches.

There was also talk more recently that Punk has been impressed with White's work too, requesting to work with the relatively new signing. As for Punk's partners, FTR are close friends of his and have been vocal defenders of The Second City Saint during his absence. A pretty big match to kick off Collision and Punk's next run in AEW. Now we wait to see if Punk still has the pulling power he had before all of the issues stemming from All Out.
