A History Of The Kane & Undertaker Tag Team, Explained

There have been many storyline brothers in wrestling, but none are as iconic as the Brothers of Destruction, Kane & The Undertaker. They have feuded and teamed with each other ever since their careers crossed paths.

They had a rough beginning, but once they figured things out, The Brothers of Destruction were an unstoppable force that provided legendary moments for WWE fans everywhere. Without further ado, here's a look at the story of this iconic team.

10 On-Again, Off-Again Beginning

The backstory is common wrestling knowledge at this point: Kane is The Undertaker's younger brother, who got "burned" in a fire when they were young, and thus wore his mask to hide the hideous scars. Kane infamously debuted during the first ever Hell in a Cell match in 1997, taking out his brother. The Undertaker refused to fight "his flesh and blood," until he spoke to their dead parents, who said it was OK. Wrestling, right?

For the next few years, fans got a back and forth dynamic where The Undertaker and Kane were either feuding, or helping each other out against the likes of Mankind, The Rock, DX and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.

9 Power Tripping As WWE Tag Team Champions

It wasn't long before the two Brothers put their differences aside (as much as you possibly can in the wrestling world) and finally teamed up to cause some... Destruction. A true powerhouse tag team, Kane and 'Taker, The Big Red Machine and The American Badass, won the WWE Tag Team titles from Edge & Christian.

During that time, they had embroiled themselves in a "winner take all" feud with WWE Intercontinental Champion Triple H and WWE Champion "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, who were known as The Two Man Power Trip.

8 The Brothers Vs The Alliance

The Undertaker and his little bro continued their tag team dominance in 2001, this time at the expense of The Alliance. The WCW/ECW faction was a thorn in their side, as the brothers faced off against The Natural Born Thrillers, DDP & Kanyon, KroniK, and, of course, The Dudley Boyz.

Lots of tag team titles changed hands during this time, as Kane and The Undertaker managed to also win the WCW Tag Team Championships.

7 Brotherly Reunions

After going their separate ways and changing their face/heel alignments many times, Kane literally buried The Undertaker in late 2003, which led to The Deadman's return and subsequent feud with The Big Red Machine.

In 2006, the Brothers of Destruction reunited once again, this time to fend off rowdy newcomers MVP and Mr. Kennedy (...Kennedy). This would start a trend of short feuds over the next few years that included the mammoth tag team of Mark Henry and Big Daddy V, Edge's Familia, Miz & Morrison, and JeriShow. They even teamed with John Cena and Triple H to take on Rated-RKO, JBL, and Chavo Guerrero.

6 Kane Gets His Revenge

Although the focus here is on the brothers teaming, they sure have feuded with each other quite a bit throughout their career. The last time they weren't on the same page was back in 2010, when Kane turned on his older brother.

The two would feud for the remainder of the year. While fans had seen them wrestle plenty of times before, this time it was very different, as Kane won every single match they had against each other, including a Buried Alive match to cap it all off. Kane finally got his revenge after years of playing second fiddle to The Deadman.

5 Raw 1000 Jobbers

On the 1000th episode of Raw, a bunch of lower card guys, among them current WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, decided to gang up on Kane. Two years after their last feud, The Undertaker showed up to even the odds (at six against two) and help out his little bro.

Jinder Mahal, Curt Hawkins, Camacho et al. were not prepared to get Chokeslammed and Tombstoned by the Brothers of Destruction. All was forgiven.

4 Paul Bearer Tribute

The Hall of Fame manager of both Kane and The Undertaker passed away in early 2013, right before WrestleMania 29. WWE used his passing as part of the storyline heading into the Show of Shows, as CM Punk kept disrespecting Paul Bearer in the lead-up to his match against The Phenom.

Kane obviously took offense, and ended up facing Punk on Raw. 'Taker showed up and helped his brother win.

3 The Shield

Following WrestleMania 29, Team Hell No began a feud with The Hounds of Justice. The Shield was an unstoppable trio that overwhelmed Kane and Daniel Bryan, so a certain someone decided to show up and even the odds.

While fans loved The Undertaker joining forces with his brother and D-Bry, ultimately it didn't matter because The Shield still mopped the floor with them. They even put The Phenom through a table using their signature Triple Powerbomb.

2 Wyatt Family, Meet The Brothers

Bray Wyatt knows all too well what happens when you ambush and attack The Undertaker and Kane on consecutive nights. The Brothers of Destruction faced off against The Wyatt Family at Survivor Series, which just so happened to be The Undertaker's 25 year anniversary in WWE.

Although they were outnumbered, the brothers took care of all the Wyatt Family members (Braun Strowman included), won the match and posed for the moment.

1 Feuding With DX In Saudi Arabia

Although this might not be the official final chapter in their storied careers together, as it stands, it was the last time Kane and The Undertaker competed alongside each other in a tag team match. Fitting that it was also Shawn Michaels' final match ever.

DX defeated the Brothers of Destruction at Crown Jewel. While the match was lacking from an in-ring perspective, it was definitely surreal to see four pillars of wrestling going at it in 2018.
