9-1-1's Buck Actor Gives Update On Next Lone Star Crossover
Oliver Stark, who portrays Evan Buckley on the Fox series 9-1-1, offers an update on the next possible crossover with Lone Star.
WARNING: Spoilers for 9-1-1, season 6, episode 1Oliver Stark, who plays Evan "Buck" Buckley on 9-1-1, gives an update on the next possible crossover with spinoff series Lone Star. Entering its sixth season, the popular Fox procedural drama kicked things off in a typically hectic fashion as Buck and his team at the 118 had to contend with a blimp emergency. But that was only one of the character's problems. 9-1-1's season 6 premiere episode, titled "Let The Games Begin", sees Buck returning to the single life four months after his split from girlfriend Taylor (Megan West). But that's not his only hurdle.
In the premiere, viewers see Buck hoping to nab the position of interim captain as Bobby (Peter Krause) leaves for his honeymoon. Though he doesn't ultimately get the position, and he's not exactly pleased about the fact that he wasn't even considered for the job, it looks like the Buck will have plenty on his plate as it is. Still, for fans who enjoyed the last crossover between 9-1-1 and Lone Star, there has been an anticipation of whether Stark will pop up on the spinoff for another crossover — especially considering how Buck's buddy, TK (Ronen Rubinstein), is getting married.
In an interview with Variety, Stark addressed the possibility of another 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star crossover. The actor specifically discussed whether Buck might show up for TK's wedding to Carlos (Rafael L. Silva). Stark jokes that he's surprised about the fact that Buck hasn't received an invitation, and that he's going to push to change that:
I mean, my main thought is, where’s my invitation? Maybe it went straight to my junk mail or something like that. I think it’s great. It’s such a lovely relationship on that show and one of many lovely relationships on that show. That would absolutely be a great opportunity; however, firefighting comes with lots of responsibilities, so I don’t believe there’s a crossover in that. But now that you said it, I’m going to send some texts saying, where’s my invite? I think it’s a great idea.
Buck and TK, or 'Tuck', as they're affectionately referred to by fans, made a big impression during the first crossover event between 9-1-1 and Lone Star. The duo quickly establishes a routine and, towards the end of the crossover, Buck eagerly suggests that he and TK should hang out again in the future. TK misinterprets Buck's invitation, pointing out that he has a boyfriend and that the relationship is serious. At the time, co-creator and executive producer Tim Minear explained that the misunderstanding was a way to indirectly include Carlos in the episode. Although, in doing so, it seems to have created a whole different fan-favorite pairing in the 9-1-1 universe.
One comedic way that the writers could deal with Buck's absence at the wedding would be to continue the bit: perhaps TK considers inviting Buck, but then he decides against it because he thinks that it would make things awkward. It would be a fun wink to the audience, offering a bit of a lighthearted dynamic for the actors to lean into whenever the next 9-1-1 crossover does occur.
