5 WWE Wrestlers Who Would Benefit From A TV-14 Rating (& 5 Who Wouldn't)
Wrestling fans are often pushing for WWE to return to a TV-14 product, with the idea being that it would bring high quality because the Attitude Era was successful for the company. However, creating a slightly edgier television product doesn't necessarily mean positives for everybody.

While there are certain wrestlers on the roster right now that would benefit greatly from being able to get away with a little more, the same cannot be said for others. For some wrestlers in WWE, the PG environment suits them better because of their character or because the focus can be on the in-ring product rather than over-the-top personalities, yet others would flourish with TV-14.
10 Would Benefit: Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens has always had a Stone Cold edge about him in the sense he doesn't care for authority, he comes out and says whatever is on his mind and does whatever he wants as well. Adding a TV-14 rating would let KO push that even further to become a true rebel on the main roster.
Considering his love for crazy bumps it would also allow him to bring some color into his matches, which would enhance the big risks that he enjoys taking.
9 Wouldn't Benefit: Rey Mysterio
Rey Mysterio is the ultimate babyface in professional wrestling, being someone who doesn't break rules and has no need for swearing to get over. That's always been his ultimate power, his ability to make fans love him because of his unique charisma and the great in-ring talent he has.
While other people around him might benefit from TV-14, it would make zero impact on him. Mysterio isn't someone who would start becoming incredibly edgy as his character is already fleshed out and beloved exactly as it is, which suits the family environment of a PG product.
8 Would Benefit: Dominik Mysterio
While a TV-14 rating might not have an impact on his father, Dominik Mysterio would likely thrive with being able to get away with more. Right now he is a natural heel who gets tons of heat, but being able to push that a little further is something that Dominik could do well.
If he could take the heat that he has right now and then extend things by his words or actions he would be hated even more and that would be useful to his gimmick. He's building up in the right manner, but having even more to do would work in his favor.
7 Wouldn't Benefit: Ricochet
Ricochet's main strength comes through being able to put together incredible in-ring matches with his unique high-flying style being something that makes him stand out. However, Ricochet lags behind a little when it comes to promos and personality, both of which are important for a TV-14 rating.
The focus would push to the characters if the rating changed, just as it did during the Attitude Era itself when a lot of talented in-ring workers ended up being overlooked. This is why Ricochet would be someone that wouldn't benefit from a change of rating.
6 Would Benefit: Grayson Waller
Grayson Waller is one of the newest characters on the main roster and someone who has got a lot of potential. He likes to push the boundaries and talk trash, which is how he got over so much during his time in NXT. However, if he was able to come out with even more controversial comments he would likely become an even bigger star.
Waller's rivalry against Shawn Michaels would have been even more impressive if he had been able to showcase more of an attitude, which is just what HBK used to himself.
5 Wouldn't Benefit: Cody Rhodes
Fans have seen Cody Rhodes work in a TV-14 environment during his AEW career, and that run saw the audience turn on him. Rhodes is someone who likes the theatrics of wrestling, and there's no doubt there would be a lot of blood in his matches if he was able to do so.

However, all the blood in the world didn't work for him in AEW, and it likely wouldn't in WWE either. The reason fans love him right now is because he's a perfect babyface gimmick, channeling similar ideas to what John Cena did, and that character works better within a PG world.
4 Would Benefit: Becky Lynch
Becky Lynch likes to bring fire and passion to everything that she does, which was clearest when working on The Man gimmick. It works well in the PG environment, but if she was able to unload even more with what she could say and do, it would take her into a new stratosphere.
The reason she got over so much originally was because Nia Jax smashed her face open, and the natural blood got people fired up. Adding that in regularly is something that would benefit her massively as it would allow Lynch to draw in an audience.
3 Wouldn't Benefit: Brock Lesnar
Most people would naturally think that a TV-14 rating would benefit someone like Brock Lesnar because of his style and attitude, but the fact is it would likely hinder him. Right now Lesnar can get away with doing certain things that others can't, such as adding blood to his matches, and that makes him feel special.
The reason he is such an attraction is that Lesnar does things that others cannot get away with. If the product was TV-14 it would become a level playing field and that in itself would make the Beast less of a draw.
2 Would Benefit: Randy Orton
Randy Orton has always worked at his best when pushing the line as much as possible with his aggression as a heel. His times working against the McMahon family are an example of that, and being able to do that with a TV-14 rating would allow him to go to new heights.

Orton can do the small things perfectly, and being able to work with fewer restrictions would allow him to push that even further. The Viper would cut some amazing promos and seeing him be a violent heel would entertain.
1 Wouldn't Benefit: The New Day
The New Day has been one of the most successful acts throughout the PG era and a big reason for that is because of the restrictions themselves. These three have managed to get away with certain things, walking the fine line by going past those restrictions, and that has worked to their advantage and created some funny moments.
If there was no boundary to push then it's hard to see how this act would have had as much widespread appeal, which survives to this day. Their jokes would then seem childish and fans would likely turn on them, which is why a TV-14 rating wouldn't help.
