5 Shocking Things We Can See Happen At WWE Backlash 2023 (& 5 That Have No Chance of Happening)

WWE Backlash 2023 is fast approaching, and now with the card pretty much fully set, it is time to look at some things that may and may not take place at the show. With the WWE draft picks set to go into effect after this show, it could mean that either this PPV will bear very little significance, or WWE will try and kick start some big angles to get the newly set rosters up and running.

Each of these is easily plausible, but it could mean that either zero shocking moments take place or that the event is jam-packed full of them.

10 We Could See Happen: Solo Sikoa Turns On The Usos

The Usos are currently not in favor with The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns, and if the Bloodline suffer another loss due to The Usos, then things could begin to get really bad for them.

Solo Sikoa seems to be Reigns’ most trusted ally right now, and he may be under orders to dish out punishment if his brothers fail to get the job done again. Although the babyfaces could score the win in this match, it could be the lasting image of Sikoa attacking The Usos which could be the memorable moment coming out of it.

9 No Chance Of Happening: Bray Wyatt PPV Comeback

Back at Extreme Rules last year, Bray Wyatt emerged at the end of the show to mark a huge return which sent the crowd into a complete frenzy. WWE won’t be pulling the same trick twice though, that's for sure.

Even though it would be surprising to see Wyatt return to television after his recent absence, WWE won’t be doing it in such a high profile way after his return ended up being a dud overall. It will happen more likely on a Raw or SmackDown.

8 We Could See Happen: Randy Orton Return

Despite some reports of Randy Orton not being set to return for a little while, there has been some conflicting news of him getting ring gear ready too, with the likes of Dave Melzter stating last month that a return was expected at some point soon. Either way, it is a possibility for an Orton return, especially since his former tag team partner Matt Riddle is back in the fold.

Orton will have a bone to pick with The Usos after they took the Raw Tag Team Titles from him, and he could well be the man to cost them the win in their six-man tag team match at Backlash against Riddle, Sami Zayn, and Kevin Owens. It is still largely unknown on his status, but this keeps the door open more than it is closed.

7 No Chance Of Happening: Bianca Belair Losing Raw Women’s Title

Bianca Belair is currently on a record-breaking reign as Raw Women’s Champion, and although a match against Iyo Sky is something fresh, there is little chance Sky causes an upset at Backlash.

Sky has been booked like an afterthought as part of the Damage CTRL faction, and for her to be the one to end Belair’s year-plus reign with the gold is out of the question.

6 We Could See Happen: Cody Rhodes Overcomes Brock Lesnar

Even though Cody Rhodes should beat Brock Lesnar at Backlash, the most likely scenario would be him suffering another setback and defeat to then eventually overcome in the future to earn himself a spot back at the top of the card.

However, there is still a chance of Rhodes scoring a shock clean victory over Lesnar. On paper, it is a mismatch, but Rhodes is still on a wave of strong momentum that could see WWE book him to win.

5 No Chance Of Happening: Omos Beating Seth Rollins

According to WrestleVotes via GiveMeSport, Seth Rollins is a “leading candidate” to be crowned as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion after Triple H’s announcement of Raw’s new world title. Given his recent spree of victories and popularity, he is the favorite to beat Omos.

Even though WWE would like to see Omos as a big star, especially after pitting him against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39, he has no chance of scoring a shocking upset victory here.

4 We Could See Happen: New Day Return

There was some talk around the WWE draft of a Big E return to WWE. These likely won’t be unsubstantiated rumors, and both a Big E return and a New Day reunion could well be happening very soon.

Backlash would be a great place to do so, bringing them back as a faction ahead of a new start for WWE with their newly instated rosters on Raw and SmackDown. They could well cost The Bloodline the main event, or fixture somewhere else on the show.

3 No Chance Of Happening: Roman Reigns Surprise Appearance

The Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns hasn’t been on WWE programming since the Raw after WrestleMania. He also isn’t advertised for Backlash. Despite being the only male world champion in WWE right now, he will not be on the show.

WWE wouldn’t waste a Reigns’ appearance in an unadvertised capacity, especially not on a B-show like Backlash. The Bloodline storyline is currently ticking by without him, and that will be the same once the show goes off air.

2 We Could See Happen: A High-Risk Bad Bunny Spot

Bad Bunny and Damian Priest are set for a big Street Fight at Backlash, and it could well end up stealing the show if done right. With Bunny competing in a singles match for the first time, fans should expect him to do something huge.

With the stipulation, a big high-risk spot will almost certainly take place from the hometown hero.

1 No Chance Of Happening: Zelina Vega Hometown Win

Zelina Vega is another hometown hero at Backlash in Puerto Rico, but unlike Bad Bunny, she has little chance of a big upset win.

Rhea Ripley is only just on the back of winning the SmackDown Women’s Title, and despite a likely valiant effort, a shock victory will not happen for Vega.
