5 Returning WWE Legends Who Would Help The Current Roster (& 5 Who Wouldn't)
Over the last decade or so especially, WWE has leaned heavily on the use of returning legends and part-timers. The idea is to draw more eyes to the product and elevate the stars of today, though that doesn’t always necessarily happen.

There are several legends and some of the all-time greats who could well make a comeback and would serve no benefit to the wider roster, only serving to either help themselves or perhaps just one or two others. However, there are also those who would certainly do some favors to the stars of today, whether that be from an experience perspective or because they’d no doubt put others over.
10 Would Help Current Roster: Randy Orton
A Randy Orton return hasn’t happened for about a year, with the multi-time world champion being ruled out with an injury. When he does come back though, one can expect him to slot back into the same sort of spots he was in before where he is in and among the stars of today, helping to elevate everyone around him.
Orton has never shown any sense of not wanting to put others over, and even with his vast amount of victories he has also suffered just as many big losses too. He uses his star power in a great way, making him one of the more selfless legends in the business.
9 Wouldn’t Help Current Roster: Hulk Hogan
Hulk Hogan has been outspoken about his desire to return to the ring for at least one more match, but much like everything else in his professional wrestling career, this is only for his benefit.
Hogan would very likely have just one (bad) match, likely against a big name, and would probably win. It feels unlikely that WWE will say yes to a match in truth given his age and condition, but never say never when money is involved.
8 Would Help Current Roster: Alundra Blayze
Alundra Blayze has wrestled one match in 23 years, and that came at the 2018 Evolution PPV in a battle royal. However, she hasn’t closed a door on a return to the ring, saying in an interview on the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling that she has one more match in her.
Blayze would no doubt do her best to help others on WWE’s roster, and those who share the ring with someone as notable as her would no doubt get a rub.
7 Wouldn’t Help Current Roster: The Undertaker
The last few years of The Undertaker’s career in WWE, aside from his AJ Styles match, were all about putting on dream matches with legends like Goldberg, Shawn Michaels, and John Cena, without really serving much benefit to the rest of the roster.

Undertaker, at this point in his career, would be a shell of his former self. Despite his saying ‘never say never’ at his Hall of Fame ceremony, one more match in front of fans would only serve to help him get one last farewell rather than helping others.
6 Would Help Current Roster: John Cena
John Cena in more recent years has proved that he doesn’t mind laying down and putting others over. When Cena comes back, he is always in the ring with full-timers, and even if he does go over, those he interacts with often get some benefit.
A recent example of this would be Grayson Waller, whose stock increased after sharing a segment with the returning Cena at the Money in the Bank PPV. Whilst Waller ended the segment on his back, he looked great on the mic and got some more notoriety among fans.
5 Wouldn’t Help Current Roster: Goldberg
Goldberg’s last run with WWE benefited very few on the roster. He won a lot of his matches, but when he did lose, it came when his aura had diminished, such as against Drew McIntyre and Roman Reigns.
Neither of those two men really got much of a rub from beating a broken-down old Goldberg. Speaking to 93.7 The Ticket, Goldberg has said he wants a retirement match, but hopefully, this doesn’t happen in WWE.
4 Would Help Current Roster: Beth Phoenix
Beth Phoenix’s WWE returns over the last few years have been a perfect way to utilize her name value as a legend of the women’s division. She hasn’t dominated the spotlight, she has had matches against full-time wrestlers and hasn’t been shy in putting others over.
Phoenix’s returns are always welcome as they do serve to benefit the rest of the roster rather than just putting her over due to being a bigger name.
3 Wouldn’t Help Current Roster: Shane McMahon
Like him or not, Shane McMahon is a legend of WWE at this point. However, both fans and wrestlers alike would likely have a collective groan if he made a return to the ring.
McMahon’s domination between 2016 and 2019 on WWE programming was jarring, and whilst he did sometimes put others over, no one really benefited in the long run apart from himself and his ego.
2 Would Help Current Roster: Steve Austin
When Steve Austin returned for the main event of WrestleMania 38, it gave Kevin Owens a spot that he may not otherwise have gotten. He was able to work a feud with Austin and headline WrestleMania, and even in defeat, he came out looking like a bigger name.

It is easy to imagine that if Austin came back again, it would be handled similarly - working with a great full-time star who deserves some spotlight and who comes out of it looking like a star.
1 Wouldn’t Help Current Roster: The Rock
The Rock would draw money, and perhaps he would put over Roman Reigns. However, this would only be taking away a big spot from someone else who deserves it. Given his name value, it wouldn't even be a shock to see him be the one to defeat Reigns if the opportunity arose.
The Rock’s last run in WWE may have been fun, but in the end, it only really benefited John Cena and himself, with others like CM Punk being left in the dust of their star power and push.
