5 Reasons Why Fans Love MJF (& 4 Reasons Why Fans Dislike Him)

Maxwell Jacob Friedman is living the best moment of his professional career, and it seems that he is still far from his prime. He is the AEW World Champion and is coming off of defeating none other than Bryan Danielson in a memorable Iron Man match. On top of that, MJF continues to cut amazing promos on a regular basis, proving that he is the best in the world at the moment in that aspect.

With that being said, it's no wonder fans love MJF. In fact, some fans want him to turn babyface, so they can support him properly. So, fans have several reasons to love MJF, but there are also some reasons why they hate him.

When it comes to cutting promos, MJF can already be considered one of the all-time greats, no exaggeration. This guy is everything that is right about wrestling promos, he is fluent, he speaks with confidence and what he says always makes sense. MJF has already cut several memorable promos, and even cut an amazing babyface promo during his feud with CM Punk, proving his versatility and talent. This is possibly the main reason why fans love MJF.

8 Why Fans Dislike Him: WWE References

MJF Possibly Joining WWE

Many AEW fans hate it when MJF makes any reference to WWE, and he does that on a semiregular basis. On TV, MJF has hinted at signing a contract with WWE, and has made references to Roman Reigns, Triple H, The Miz, among others. And not to mention everything MJF has said about joining WWE on social media or in interviews. "He can't live without thinking about WWE" or "Why are you in AEW if your heart is in WWE," some MJF haters opine.

7 Why Fans Love MJF: Pipe Bomb Promo

Fans love MJF for his mic skills, and his Pipe Bomb promo on the June 1, 2022, episode of Dynamite increased his popularity and made fans love him even more. On that occasion MJF said he didn't want to be in AEW anymore, he said Tony Khan didn't pay him what he deserved, instead he spent all the money on former WWE wrestlers. MJF even asked Khan to fire him, and they cut the mic off. This promo made a huge impact and ended up being one of the best in modern wrestling history, although obviously MJF really meant some things.

6 Why Fans Dislike Him: Basic Wrestling Style

Some fans hate MJF and think he is overrated because he has a basic wrestling style, with a methodical, slow-paced offense. Certainly, MJF has good technique, but he is not a guy who is going to carry his opponent, he is not going to perform a mind-blowing spot or a breathtaking maneuver, at least not on a regular basis.

MJF's matches are not usually spectacular, and fans criticize him, but that's just not his style. MJF's game is about storytelling, in-ring psychology, character work, selling and annoying the fans, and in that way he has delivered good matches as well.

5 Why Fans Love MJF: He Is Very Charismatic

MJF is very charismatic, and that's precisely why fans love him despite being a heel. Charisma is a fundamental aspect in wrestling, in fact, many wrestlers became legends thanks to their charisma (Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior, for example). Not all wrestlers possess the gift of charisma, but fortunately for MJF, charisma runs through his veins, and he can connect with the audience with ease.

4 Why Fans Dislike Him: He Doesn’t Wrestle Regularly

Some fans hate MJF because sometimes they want to see less talk and more action. MJF doesn't wrestle on a regular basis, in fact he barely has two matches in 2023 and has only had three matches since becoming AEW World Champion in November. Even Roman Reigns has had more matches than MJF since November, and that's saying something. No one is asking for a match a week, but MJF is young, and he has to prove that he deserves to be champion, so the fans are upset that he wrestles once a month.

3 Why Fans Love MJF: He is An Outstanding Heel

Sometimes a heel is so good that fans just can't hate him, or rather, "love to hate him". That's the case with Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns, and it's also the case with Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

MJF's character work is flawless, he is such a great heel in every aspect. He cuts heel promos naturally, he plays dirty in his matches, and even on social media he belittles people like a true heel. MJF is the best heel in AEW history.

2 Fans Dislike Him: Same Old Character

MJF has been a heel for practically his entire career, that's right, even before he worked for AEW. His character has been basically the same, and those fans who have been following him for several years are already getting bored with him. MJF had a golden opportunity to turn babyface recently, the fans were clamoring for it, but he didn't do it, and he's still the same heel he is every day. Similar promos, similar attires, similar storylines, similar matches, and some fans already dislike the routine.

1 Why Fans Love MJF: Youth

Fans love MJF for all the reasons mentioned above, and when people realize that he is only 26 years old they get excited, because they believe that the sky is the limit for MJF. Fans believe that MJF is far from his prime, and they are anxious to see how big his legacy will be. So, MJF's youth makes people interested in him and his wrestling career.
