5 Best Female Sidekicks In WCW History (& 5 Worst)
The role of a sidekick is pivotal to the ideal storyline in the wrestling world. WCW had their fair share of talents slotted in the sidekick role. Quite a few women were placed in these roles, even though WCW didn’t always have a strong women’s division. WWE finding success with female characters led to WCW trying to do the same.

However, there were mixed results for the women placed into sidekick roles working with other talents. A great sidekick must enhance the talent they are working with and could easily still stand out on their own. Unfortunately, not everyone was able to achieve that as well as others. The following women were the best and worst sidekick characters in WCW history.
10 Best: Madusa
Many fans would name Madusa as the best overall female talent in WCW history since she found success in the industry as both a wrestler and a manager. WCW found a great situation for Madusa when she joined the Dangerous Alliance and played Paul Heyman’s sidekick.

Madusa helped manage the heel wrestlers of the group, but she was even more valuable when getting physically involved. Heyman being a cowardly leader added a fun dynamic with Madusa being tougher than him and adding a great presence to the heel faction.
9 Worst: Midnight
WCW started to pile up the terrible ideas one by one when 2000 hit and the momentum couldn’t turn around. Booker T was a rare bright spot, but not even he could escape all the bad ideas that were given to talents around that time.
Harlem Heat 2000 formed with Stevie Ray adding Big T aka Ahmed Johnson as his new tag team partner. Midnight was a jacked female sidekick to Booker to help him even the odds. There was not much chemistry there nor did fans know much about Midnight to care as a character.
8 Best: Midajah
Scott Steiner was the last main eventer made by WCW in the company’s final year when finally getting a chance to move up the card. Midajah became Steiner’s manager and sidekick after he used to have multiple valets.
WCW made Midajah the official manager of Steiner and lost the others since she had more chemistry with him. Steiner became a credible WCW Champion and provided an interesting attraction with Midajah at his side helping the act.
7 Worst: Major Gunns
WCW making female characters a bigger part of the show led to some new managing roles opening. Major Gunns had her big run coming as the manager and sidekick of the Misfits in Action stable. Most of the wrestlers in the group were always lower mid-carders, so adding another variable of a female manager was needed.
Unfortunately, the career of Major Gunns never took off in the way WCW expected when she was pushed even harder than future Hall of Famers Stacy Keibler and Torrie Wilson. Major Gunns took part in mostly eye candy segments rather than boosting the act.
6 Best: Daffney
One of the most unlikely success stories in WCW featured the trio of David Flair, Crowbar and Daffney getting over. David failed in every other push to come for him before and after this run. Daffney and Crowbar were generally unknown at the time to put the odds against their success.
The wild character of Daffney screaming during matches and getting involved in creative ways was the most valuable part of the act. Daffney was the biggest reason that fans viewed Flair and Crowbar as a tag team worth rooting for.
5 Worst: Tygress
The Nitro Girls dancers were usually just there for their dance segments and no storylines until Vince Russo made changes. Many of the female dancers were moved into new roles of managing or having storylines to see who could break out.

Tygress had a lot of charisma and a great look when joining the Filthy Animals faction as Rey Mysterio’s love interest. However, there was still something missing as fans could tell Tygress was someone with no wrestling experience. The Filthy Animals second version never got much momentum, despite hoping Tygress would add some interest.
4 Best: Sherri Martel
WCW made a great decision when they hired Sherri Martel after her great WWE run. Sherri had a good run as Ric Flair’s manager, but her best WCW stint came with the Harlem Heat tag team. Booker T and Stevie Ray felt more important with Martel at ringside during their matches.
Sherri deserves a lot of credit for working to find the right character within the acts she managed. The gear of Martel matched Harlem Heat, and she started to have a more ruthless side like their characters. Booker T still talks about how much he learned from Sherri and the impact it had on her career.
3 Worst: Tammy Sytch
WWE witnessed Sunny aka Tammy Sytch having a tremendous run there and breaking out as a star in wrestling. However, things fell apart at the end of the WWE run and never fully rebounded. Sytch hoped that a WCW stint in 2000 managing her boyfriend Chris Candido would give her another major run.
WCW even pushed Candido to win the Cruiserweight Championship, but Tammy didn’t have the same magic as WWE. A backstage incident getting reported for allegedly bringing drugs into the women’s locker room led to Sytch and Candido both getting fired quickly into their run.
2 Best: Kimberly Page
WCW witnessed Kimberly Page becoming their most popular manager when Diamond Dallas Page feuded with the New World Order, and she started managing him again. The pairing of DDP and Kimberly saw them on opposite sides of Randy Savage and his manager Miss Elizabeth.
Kimberly was beloved by WCW fans for playing a classic babyface character both getting over on her own and enhancing DDP’s push. WCW made the right call keeping them together for a while and doing more with Kimberly than just Nitro Girls dance routines.
1 Worst: Asya
Chyna becoming such a great character in WWE as Triple H’s jacked sidekick led to WCW trying to create their own version of her. Asya was the name used as WCW didn’t even try to hide the fact that this was a Chyna parody with the silly joke of “Asya is bigger than Chyna.”
The Revolution faction had potential on paper with talented members Shane Douglas, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn. Asya as their sidekick took away from the interest as she added very little as a performer. WCW picked the wrong talent and an even worse gimmick to cause failure.
