10 Wrestlers You Didn’t Realize Were Part Of Wrestling Families

Professional Wrestling and families go together in so many ways. Not only is wrestling fandom generational, with families who have been watching for years; but many of the men and women getting it done in the ring are also multi-generational. Vince McMahon himself is a third-generation promoter. Much like other facets of business, nepotism runs as wild as Hulkamania in Sports Entertainment.

But not all men got to where they were based on their family name, some joined the family after they made it to the business and some wrestlers never traded in on their family name. Without further ado, here are 10 wrestlers you didn’t realize were part of wrestling families.

10 "Rowdy" Roddy Piper - The Hart Family

During their interview leading up the Intercontinental Championship match at WrestleMania VIII, Roddy Piper had alluded coming around to The Hart House and eating Helen’s bad cooking and hanging around a young Bret. At the time it seemed like it was just Roddy being Roddy. As it turns out years later, it was revealed he was a cousin of the family. No one in the Hart family has ever disputed this claim that seemingly came out of left field. But with 850 members of Stu’s family running around, what’s one more?

9 Jerry Sags - The Rhodes Family

Currently in AEW, the sons of Dusty Rhodes are doing their best to show the world there’s another way to present professional wrestling. One of the ways that AEW is trying to differentiate themselves is by focusing on the tag team scene. One of the best burly, brawling teams of all time actually has lineage in the Rhodes family.

Jerry Sags of The Nasty Boys is the forgotten member of the Rhodes family dynasty. The purveyor of Pity City has married Laura Rubio in 1982, the sister of Dusty’s widow Michelle. This would make Sags the uncle of Cody but not to Goldust, considering they're half-brothers with different mothers.

8 Brian Knobbs - The Valentine Family

The other member of the underrated Nasty Boys, Brian Knobbs is also married into an old-school big time wrestling family. No, it’s not the Hogan family despite Knobbs being good friends with Hulk. The mayor of Pity City has been married to Toni Wisniski, the sister of Greg “The Hammer” Valentine since 1994. The Hammer, many old school fans will remember as a former IC and tag champ and the son of Johnny Valentine. Johnny was a big name during the 50s and 60s but unfortunately his career was cut short when he was involved in the big plane crash that nearly cost Ric Flair his life in 1975.

7 Aiden English - The Guerreros

As an all-around sports-entertainer, Aiden English has plenty of great attributes. He’s a solid hand, he has decent mic skills, and he can actually sing. Several years ago, he and Rusev got over solely on the silliness of The Drama King singing about Rusev Day. That kind of devotion to getting over no matter what creative has given to you is the kind of devotion that Aiden’s late father-in-law, Eddie Guerrero had. The fighting songbird has been married to the late great’s daughter, Shaul, since 2016.

6 The Bellas - The Laurinaitis Family

Over the course of a decade, The Bella Twins carved out a nice legacy and expanded their familial lineage in the sport that could spark a dynasty, thanks to the now three children Nikki and Brie have between them. If it does, that dynasty will also have roots tracing back to The Road Warriors. Thanks to mama Bella marrying John “Johnny Ace” Laurinaitis, the twins and Daniel Bryan can call Joe and Animal from The Road Warriors in the Laurinaitis dynasty.

5 The Honky Tonk Man - The Lawler Family

The Lawler family isn’t as big a wrestling family as most dynasties on this list, but the legend of Jerry Lawler certainly looms huge over the past fifty years. His son Kevin has worked as a referee and a kayfabe brother of Hot Stuff Eddie Gilbert and his other son, the late Brian Christopher made a name for himself as Too Sexy.

Seldom mentioned, if ever on TV is the fact that Lawler’s cousin is The Greatest Intercontinental Champion of all time, The Honky Tonk Man.

4 Jacob Fatu - The Anoa’i Family

Similar to The Hart Family, there are approximately 865 members of the Anoa’i family running around several different promotions. When you factor in that they’re all related to either the Maivia or Tongan families then there’s not just a family tree, but a giant Samoan Forest.

Jacob Fatu is one of those massive mountains of men that is related to the Anoa’i family you might not know about it thanks to his placement in the lesser known MLW federation. Trained by his uncle Rikishi, Jacob Fatu heads up The Contra Group and is also the MLW World Champion.

3 The Shockmaster - The Rhodes Family

In the big build up for Sting’s Team against Vader’s Team at the 1993 War Games, the Stinger promised a shocking mystery partner. During a Flair For The Gold, this big guy comes out through an exploding drywall and trips his way into infamy. His glittery Stormtrooper helmet falls off and you notice that it’s none other than Dusty Rhodes’ brother-in-law, the former Tugboat, Fred Ottman. Fred is also the uncle of Goldust (Dustin Rhodes) and Cody.

2 Bray Wyatt - The Windham Family

It took several years, but it seems like the WWE is finally realizing the potential they have on their hands with the likes of Bray Wyatt. Thanks to The Fiend and his demented children’s show host to go along with this backwoods cult leader, the company has three characters on their hands and can find ways to stretch feuds and programs alike.

Wyatt had proven time and time again he has a great knack for the business, and why shouldn’t he? His dad is IRS, Michael Rotunda, and his Uncle Barry happens to be one of smoothest workers of all time - Barry Windham.

1 Humberto Carrillo - The Garza Family

After being called up from NXT, Humberto Carrillo has had several great matches on the main roster to cement his claim as one of the best future Lucha Libre stars in America. Carrillo is like many of the other Luchas on the roster and is a part of a big wrestling family. Not only is is his cousin, Angel Garza also a part of the main roster, but his uncle is one of the best wrestlers of the past 30 years, Hector Garza.
