10 WCW Characters Who Were More Annoying Than Entertaining

WCW was a hotbed of talented professional wrestlers during the 1990s. WCW would challenge WWE for professional wrestling supremacy. By the mid 1990s, WCW produced Monday Nitro live and introduced the wrestling world to many entertaining characters. While WCW loved to lean on established WWE talent in their main event sports, they also produced some of the most entertaining young talent in the sport. The roster "where the big boys played" was filled with highly entertaining characters.

Yet, some of the WCW roster would come across more annoying than entertaining. Some of their characters irritated fans to the point that it was more entertaining to turn the channel. WCW would even feature many of these annoying characters, and continually add them to storylines. While wrestlers like Sting, Kevin Nash, Ric Flair, Chris Jericho, Raven and many others oozed with entertaining charisma, many on the WCW roster oozed with annoyance and irritation to the maximum amount.

10 Booty Man

WCW Brutus Beefcake Versions

Ed Leslie could most likely have 4 entries on this list during his time in World Championship Wrestling, yet his portrayal of the Booty Man was the most annoying. After finally leaving the Dungeon of Doom after being revealed as Hulk Hogan's mole in the faction, Leslie debuted the Booty Man. The Booty Man gimmick was of a man that loved his own booty... buttocks. His ring attire highlighted his booty, and his finish maneuver was a high knee (homonym hiney). The only saving grace of the Booty Man character was his valet the Booty Babe, Kimberly Page.

9 Mike Awesome

Mike Awesome That 70s Guy

Bash At The Beach 2000 was an infamous pay per view in WCW history. After that pay per view, Mike Awesome, former Extreme Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight Champion became the "Fat Chick Thriller". Awesome went from extreme champion to comedy act in WCW, and it was annoying.

Not only his fall from grace, but his character of being infatuated with larger set women was annoying. To fix the obvious gimmick fail, WCW would turn Awesome into "That 70's Guy". Clearly a reference to top television show at the time, That 70s Show, but made no sense in professional wrestling. Awesome dressed in 70's attire, drove a Partridge family-esque van and hosted the Lava Lamp Lounge all in truly annoying fashion.

8 Buff Bagwell

BUFF

The curious case of Marcus Alexander Bagwell in World Championship Wrestling is a mystery. Bagwell was athletic, had a great look and at times seemed to have an authentic relationship with the fans. Then Bagwell debuted Buff. Buffdaddy would turn into an egomaniac that uncontrollably posed and strutted in the ring. His character turned into a phony nWo lackey and become more annoying than entertaining. Bagwell's grand standing would drive opponents and fans insane. Yet, Buff Bagwell in the nWo had more go home heat than actual entertaining heel heat. While Buff had potential to be a leader of the next generation of WCW, his annoying heel persona irritated the audience and his co-workers.

7 The Artist

Sharmell as Paisley with The Artist Formerly Known as Prince Iaukea

Prince Iaukea was a likable WCW mid-card babyface, who captured the Television Title in 1997. As a babyface, Iaukea would never rise above the mid-card, but he did have a solid following. Yet, when Vince Russo became head booker of World Championship Wrestling, Iaukea was repackaged. Prince Iaukea become the villainous, Artist Formerly Known As Prince Iaukea. His name was shortened to The Artist and was a mockery of the pop superstar, Prince. While The Artist would capture the Cruiserweight title during this gimmick, the character he portrayed was annoying. The Artist went from Hawaiian star to flamboyant "Artist" and never clicked with the pro wrestling universe.

6 Paul Roma

Paul Roma

In WWE, Paul Roma was a tag team specialist with the Young Stallions and Power and Glory. Yet, when Roma signed with World Championship Wrestling in 1993, he was elevated to the Four Horsemen. Roma would team with Arn Anderson and won the WCW World Tag Team Titles. Eventually, the Horseman fit was determined a failure and Roma joined Paul Orndorff in a tag team.

As part of Pretty Wonderful, Pretty Paul Roma would become even more annoying on WCW television. Roma become the personification of annoying when he tried to refuse to lose to Alex Wright on pay per view. The referee would count to three during a roll up, with Roma's shoulders clearly off the mat.

5 Dynamic Dudes

Dynamic Dudes

Johnny Ace and Shane Douglas would create the Dynamic Dudes in 1989. Their gimmick was of two super cool skateboarders that would become the tag team of the 1990s. None of those things were true. Most importantly, Ace and Douglas portrayed skateboarders, but carried their boards to the ring because they couldn't actually skate. The duo screamed annoyance on WCW television. Even combining the characters with Jim Cornette could not help the Dudes appeal with WCW fans. Both, Douglas and Ace would move on to more success, but their generic roles as cool skateboarders did nothing but annoy.

4 David Flair

David Flair was a 20-year-old kid when he debuted full time with World Championship Wrestling. David clearly lacked the charisma and athletic ability of his famous father, Nature Boy Ric Flair. David would become an annoying character because he stayed on WCW television because of his name value.

David never improved in the ring during his career as an active WCW competitor. David would also have on screen roles with Torrie Wilson, Stacy Keibler and Daffney which made him annoying to the WCW fan. David would try to develop his character by becoming a psycho with Daffney and Crowbar, yet even with his effort he was more annoying than entertaining.

3 Hugh Morrus

In 1995, the Laughing Man Hugh Morrus would debut in World Championship Wrestling. His name (hugh morrus) was a pun on the word humorous and that alone made him annoying. Add the fact that Morrus would randomly start laughing, and you have one of the most annoying characters in WCW history. Morrus was also added to the Dungeon of Doom, who were exclusively a group of monster heels and the Laughing Man didn't seem to fit in that faction. While Morrus was good in the ring his gimmick was nothing more than irritating to the WCW fan. Morrus tried to adjust his laughing man gimmick to an angry laughing man, but thankfully Vince Russo took over and stopped that gimmick before in annoyed audiences. Granted becoming General Rection wasn't the best career move either.

2 Disco Inferno

Disco Inferno

Glen Gilbertti had the look and size at 6'1, 240 pounds to succeed in professional wrestling. As we have seen since his WCW career, Gilberrti is a great talker and has a massive amount of natural charisma. Yet, in WCW he became the Disco Inferno. Disco would be a John Travolta inspired character that cared more about dancing than professional wrestling. The Disco character would annoy audiences and television viewers from the time he entered the promotion in 1995 until World Wrestling Entertainment purchased WCW in 2001.

1 Oklahoma

Oklahoma wearing the WCW Cruiserweight Championship.

Ed Ferrara would join Vince Russo in World Championship Wrestling in 1999. As the head bookers, Russo and Ferrara introduced crash tv to WCW fans. Along the way, both bookers would become on screen talent. Ferrara in particular would become annoying beyond belief. His character portrayal of Oklahoma was an over the top mockery of Jim Ross. As Oklahoma, Ferrera would parody Ross, even making fun of his Bell's Palsy. The gimmick was offensive on all levels and did not show entertainment value. The Oklahoma character would transition into a sexist character and have a feud with Madusa. While Oklahoma would lose an evening gown match to Madusa, he would also pin her for the WCW Cruiserweight Title. Oklahoma is the most annoying character in WCW history.
