Each wrestler involved did their best to make the gimmick work, but it ended before they could hit their full potential with it. The following wrestlers had gimmicks that the fans liked and wanted more of.
10 Abyss As Joseph Park
The TNA career of Abyss featured him staying loyal to the company and even turning down a big WWE role. However, Abyss eventually grew stale after playing the odd character for many years with a lot of negative moments slowing down momentum.

TNA took a risk by unmasking Abyss and having him claim to be Abyss’ brother Joseph Park. The lawyer gimmick showed him as a mild-mannered non-wrestler that would sometimes slip back into the Abyss role when pushed. Fans enjoyed the humor and seeing another side to him, but TNA quickly went back to the Abyss character.
9 Kevin Nash With X Division
One of the biggest surprises for TNA featured Kevin Nash being fine with taking a smaller role. Nash had a reputation for playing backstage politics and trying to take the top spot at the expense of other talents in WCW and WWE.
However, TNA got a fun side of Nash looking to have a good time and create entertaining television. The segments of Nash having contests for the X-Division wrestlers and getting along with them were tremendous. TNA could have continued helping get X-Division talents over and having the best version of Nash if they kept it going.
8 Heel Don West
An unexpected heel turn in TNA saw Don West demanding the microphone and running down his commentary partner Mike Tenay. West and Tenay were an underrated team, but TNA wanted conflict by having Don embrace a heel character.
The shocking promo from West saw him running down Tenay for welcoming him being replaced by TNA management. West was hilarious on TNA commentary and could have had more memorable moments, but the company ended the experiment after a few months.
7 Vicious Heel Homicide
Many fans forget that Homicide is a former Ring of Honor Champion since the title is associated with future top stars in bigger promotions like CM Punk, Bryan Danielson and Seth Rollins. However, Homicide deserves more credit for his impact in the wrestling world.
TNA struggled to find an ideal role for him after the successful LAX team ended. Homicide embracing a vicious side for a heel turn in the X-Division was by far the best of his singles work in TNA. Unfortunately, TNA never committed to it, and he became just another afterthought when the character lacked direction.
6 "Don't Fire Eric" Character For Eric Young
The long TNA career of Eric Young has seen him in just about every role possible. TNA ending the Team Canada faction saw Young fully embracing a face role as the standout fan favorite from the formerly hated group.
Young became paranoid that he would lose his job and started the “Don’t fire Eric” campaign. The hilarious segments getting in the way of heel wrestlers and trying to keep his job may have been his peak as a comedic character.
5 Christian Cage As Forced Main Event Mafia Member
The Main Event Mafia became the best act in TNA for a few months when putting together all former world champs. Christian Cage’s face character feuded with most of the Main Event Mafia members, who wanted him to join them.

A loss at the hands of Booker T saw Christian forced to join in an interesting storyline twist of a reluctant member. TNA however booked this just for the Main Event Mafia to kick Cage out to write him off before his WWE return. The storyline could have been great if Christian stuck around longer.
4 Winter's Supernatural Character
Wrestling fans are usually hit or miss on the idea of supernatural characters. The Undertaker, Kane and Bray Wyatt have shown that they can work with the right momentum. Former WWE talent Katie Lea Burchill joined TNA under the new name and character of Winter.
The gimmick saw Winter having mind control powers over Angelina Love and convincing her to team up against her former group The Beautiful People. TNA slowing down on the gimmick caused it to end weak, but Winter keeping the character and having powers over others to start a faction could have worked.
3 D'Angelo Dinero As The Pope
TNA scored a solid signing when former WWE star Elijah Burke joined TNA in his prime as D'Angelo Dinero. A gimmick of The Black Pope saw Dinero cutting compelling promos and gaining enough momentum to earn a TNA World Championship match against AJ Styles.
The loss to Styles saw Pope’s character losing all momentum and trending negatively. Dinero didn’t have much success afterwards eventually turning heel and trying to turn D-Von Dudley’s sons against him. TNA dropped the ball on a gimmick that was working well.
2 Desmond Wolfe With Chelsea
TNA took advantage of WWE changing their mind when ending contract talks with former ROH World Champion Nigel McGuinness. The company wasted no time signing Nigel under the new name of Desmond Wolfe to feud with Kurt Angle.
Wolfe looked great whenever given time to get over and found chemistry with a valet named Chelsea. TNA’s creative team led by Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff seemed to lose all interest in Wolfe and punted on the push. Wolfe winning a world title shot via a fan poll led to him being punished for it with a lower role afterwards.
1 Raven Leading The Gathering
The history of Raven in every promotion has seen him leading quite a few factions. Raven leading his Nest in ECW and The Flock in ECW were the groups that fans will always remember most, but he tried a few stables in TNA.
The earlier years of TNA saw Raven leading The Gathering with the young talents of CM Punk, Mickie James and Julio Dinero. Punk and James becoming future legends show how promising this idea was. However, TNA had them turn on Raven before quickly being removed from television to end it way too early.
