10 Things About The Ministry Of Darkness That Made No Sense
The Ministry of Darkness was one of the most powerful factions in the Attitude Era. However, there have been decisions that raised eyebrows on how the Ministry of Darkness was booked.
At Judgment Day: In Your House, The Undertaker realigned himself with Paul Bearer in October 1998 after a two-year separation. The demonic duo spoke about unleashing the Ministry of Darkness which came to the fore on the January 11, 1999 edition of Monday Night Raw.

Ultimately, The Ministry of Darkness was a failure, when you look at the grand scheme of things. Many wrestling critics and fans alike, have done fantasy bookings on how The Ministry of Darkness should have been booked. The Undertaker was the top heel in 1999, and some things were done correctly but largely The Ministry of Darkness was hugely disappointing.
10 Taking Too Long For It To Start
The Undertaker and Paul Bearer let their intentions be known that The Ministry of Darkness would be starting after they reunited at Judgment Day: In Your House. Undertaker was hellbent on reclaiming the WWE Championship, but he came up short by losing in the semifinals at Survivor Series 1998 all thanks to his brother Kane.
However, Undertaker's plans were delayed as he lost to Steve Austin at Rock Bottom: In Your House in a Buried Alive match. Nevertheless, Undertaker returned a month later on January 11, 1999, with his old Graveyard Symphony theme song. Yes, Undertaker had nagging injuries but the Ministry taking form three months later is nonsensical.
9 Choice Of Members
The Undertaker's first recruits in The Ministry of Darkness were Bradshaw and Faarooq of The Acolytes. They were the perfect henchmen for Undertaker, who were legitimately tough and were able to do Undertaker's bidding.
However, Undertaker's real-life friend Dennis Knight, who was repacked as Mideon, and Mabel who was abducted at the 1999 Royal Rumble also joined the group. Mabel's name changed to Viscera, and The Brood completed the lineup. The likes of Mideon and Viscera weren't going to trouble the top names such as Steve Austin and The Rock, so the casting of the group was a bit off, which made The Ministry feel like they were less of a threat.
8 The Brood Joining
On the February 1, 1999 edition of Raw, The Undertaker completed his Ministry of Darkness lineup by acquiring the services of The Brood. The trio of Gangrel, Edge, and Christian was unveiled as they were disguised as druids.
There's no doubt that it was cool to see The Brood feature prominently as part of The Ministry of Darkness but they were completely fine on their own. They portrayed babyfaces before they joined the Ministry, and they would be on the receiving end of beatdowns when things didn't go Undertaker's way.
7 Lack Of Championships
The way that factions show their domination is by having plenty of championships in their camp, The Ministry of Darkness' direct rivals The Corporation ended 1998 and began 1999 with the top championship in their possession, which was won in a short space of time.

The Corporation's Ken Shamrock and Big Boss Man dropped the WWE Tag Team Championship to Owen Hart and Jeff Jarrett in January 1999. It made perfect sense for The Acolytes to wrestle the WWE Tag Team Championships away from Jarrett and Hart at St. Valentine's Day Massacre: In Your House. The Acolytes eventually won the titles from X-Pac and Kane but winning it earlier would have been ideal.
6 Leaving Mideon On His Own To Get Beaten Up By The Corporation
Mideon was arguably the weakest member of The Ministry of Darkness, and he competed in a lot of matches. That wasn't ideal as Mideon is not a magnificent in-ring competitor, and his matches were boring to watch.
Moreover, The Undertaker's devious plans were underway as the entire Ministry sans Mideon went to Mr. McMahon's house. Mideon was sacrificed and he was battered and bloodied by The Corporation. This was illogical as it made the Ministry look weak. There were enough members of the Ministry, who could have stayed behind and aided Mideon to fight off The Corporation.
5 Undertaker Hardly Wrestling
Undertaker did not wrestle for two months after Rock Bottom: In Your House. He returned to action by colliding with his brother Kane in an Inferno match on the February 22, 1999 edition of Raw. Kane was an estranged member of The Corporation, and it was good to see Undertaker being competitive.
Unfortunately, The Phenom had a niggling hip injury amongst other injuries. Ultimately, the group failed to feature in high-profile matches which massively hurt the Ministry. It's not to say that Undertaker had to wrestle weekly because he doesn't, but his presence in the ring would have made a huge difference.
4 Undertaker Fighting Big Boss Man At WrestleMania XV
At WrestleMania XV, The Undertaker squared off with The Corporation's head of security Big Boss Man in a Hell in a Cell match. It was an underwhelming match, which epitomized how bad the feud between the Ministry and The Corporation was.

Both factions were heels, so fans weren't going to be cheering for either faction to prevail over the other. Fans rarely chant "boring" during Undertaker's matches but their Hell in a Cell match was atrocious. Undertaker could have faced someone else as Boss Man did not have a legitimate chance of prevailing. After the match, Undertaker hung Boss Man with a noose.
3 Undertaker Getting Edge & Gangrel To Punish Christian
The Ministry of Darkness successfully abducted Stephanie McMahon but her location was a mystery. However, Ken Shamrock who was loyal to Mr. McMahon, went on a mission to find Stephanie. The World's Most Dangerous Man was incensed after several beatdowns from The Ministry, he locked Christian in the Anke Lock, who blurted out Stephanie's location.
Stephanie was in the Boiler Room, and The Undertaker's symbol was etched on her forehead. The Undertaker was far from happy, and he wanted Edge and Gangrel to discipline Christian. It made little sense for Edge and Gangrel to turn on Christian, who ended up leaving The Ministry, which was the best decision for them in all fairness.
2 The Corporate Ministry Is Formed
After WrestleMania XV, Shane McMahon began taking leadership of The Corporation, which saw a few members including Shamrock depart the group. Shane's sinister plan saw him do the unthinkable by merging with The Undertaker's Ministry of Darkness to form The Corporate Ministry.
This made no sense whatsoever as the two factions were feuding for months and would decimate each other in matches. Furthermore, it felt like The Undertaker's power was gone as he took a backseat in the group with Shane McMahon firmly in control.
1 Vince McMahon Unveiled As The Higher Power
Undertaker was in hot pursuit of Steve Austin's WWE Championship. For months, Undertaker mentioned that there was a "Higher Power." Rumors swirled around about who this Higher Power was, and even Jake "The Snake" Roberts was touted as The Higher Power.
Ultimately, it was a letdown as Mr. McMahon was unveiled as The Higher Power. This took the spotlight off Undertaker and his WWE Championship reign was an utter failure. The Ministry of Darkness merging with The Corporation for starters was a huge error and they simply never seemed to recover.
