Ron and Hermione were the Harry Potter franchise's ultimate romance. Though it took a while to get there, these scenes proved they belonged together.

The Harry Potter film franchise followed the central group of Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they matured from young children attending Hogwarts for the first time to grown adults who fought to save the entire wizarding world. Part of this growth involved the characters developing romantic relationships.

Some of these relationships were embraced by fans and some were ultimately rejected. But in the end, it was the romance between Ron and Hermione that proved to be one of the central relationships in the entire series. From the very beginning, there were moments throughout their friendship that proved they were soulmates.

10 Opposites Attract

After the moving staircase redirected the trio to the restricted third floor in The Sorcerer's Stone, they came face to face with Fluffy, the three-headed dog guarding the Sorcerer's Stone. Hermione left the boys by stating that she was going to bed before they found a way to get themselves killed or worse, expelled.

Ron responded by remarking that she needed to sort out her priorities. This playful back and forth perfectly highlighted the differences between these two and illustrated why they would so perfectly balance one another out in an eventual relationship.

9 Swish And Flick

In The Sorcerer's Stone, Hermione and Ron experienced their first fight after Ron struggled to learn the Levitation Charm in Professor Flitwick's Charms Class. Hermione corrected Ron and demonstrated how to properly cast the charm, leading to Ron making fun of her. Hurt, Hermione ran away to cry in the bathroom.

When a troll was got into the school, Ron and Harry rushed to find Hermione. During the battle with the troll, it was Hermione's instruction about the Levitation Charm that allowed Ron to lift the troll's hammer and knock it out. Despite Ron's immaturity, this moment demonstrated the powerful bond between the two.

8 Heroic Sacrifice

Having already established their relationship, The Sorcerer's Stone reached an emotional climax that foreshadowed the direction Hermione and Ron would eventually head in. Ron sacrificed himself playing Wizard's Chess so Harry could face Quirrell and Voldemort and protect the Sorcerer's Stone.

While Harry could have used all the help he could get, Hermione instead stayed behind to tend to Ron, leaving Harry to go on alone. With the fate of the entire wizarding world resting on the group stopping Voldemort from getting the Sorcerer's Stone and returning in bodily form, Ron was Hermione's priority. She willingly sat out the showdown to take care of Ron, proving how much she cared about him.

7 Standing Up For Each Other

In The Chamber of Secrets, the trio encountered the Slytherin quidditch team, who showed off Draco Malfoy as their new Seeker. Malfoy insulted Ron, taunting his family's poverty. Hermione stepped in to defend Ron and mocked Malfoy for needing to buy his way onto the team.

This prompted Malfoy to then attack Hermione for not being a pure-blooded wizard. Upon hearing Malfoy call her a slur, Ron jumped into action, casting a spell that was meant to cause Malfoy to vomit slugs. While the curse backfired because of Ron's broken wand, the intent was still noble. This scene proved that Ron and Hermione cared about each other and always had each other's back.

6 Fight Or Flight Response

As Hagrid taught the students about hippogriffs in The Prisoner of Azkaban, he gave the class a hands-on lesson involving Buckbeak. The students were understandably afraid of the large creature but Harry was the first one to interact with Buckbeak, cautiously approaching the hippogriff. As Harry got closer, Buckbeak let out a noise, startling the other students.

Hermione's response to being startled was to reach out and grab Ron's hand. The pair shared an awkward moment and they realized the situation they were in before quickly looking away from each other. It was a brief moment, but one that hinted at the growing romance between the two.

5 Missed Opportunity

When Ron learned that Hogwarts would be hosting the Yule Ball in The Goblet of Fire, he spent a great deal of time trying to figure out how to ask out a girl. In the process, he made the mistake of making Hermione his backup plan.

As a result, Hermione ended up going to the dance with Ron's idol, Viktor Krum. Ron spent the entire dance regretting his decision and being jealous of Krum. Ron handled the situation wrong, but the scene clearly proved that he had feelings for Hermione.

4 He's A Keeper

In The Half-Blood Prince, Ron tried out to be the Keeper for the Gryffindor quidditch team. He competed against rival Cormac McLaggen, who upset Ron before the tryout by mentioning that he wanted to date Hermione. Ron's tryout started out shaky as he barely managed to stop the incoming shots while Cormac clearly looked like the better player.

Even though Ron was interested in Lavender Brown, Hermione secretly used a charm to help swing the tryout in Ron's favor. This act demonstrated how deeply Hermione cared for Ron, even when he was about to be with someone else.

3 Hypothetical Snogging

In The Half-Blood Prince, Ron, Hermione, and Harry were drinking a butterbeer at the Three Broomsticks when Ron spotted his sister, Ginny, making out with a boy. Visibly upset, Ron requested that the group leave.

Hermione tried to convince him that it was no big deal by stating that Ginny would not leave if she looked over and saw Ron and Hermione kissing. Hermione did not have to use herself as Ron's snogging partner in the hypothetical but chose to do so anyway. The overtly romantic situation forced Harry to feel like a third wheel and he left to start a conversation with Professor Slughorn.

2 Her Voice Leading Him

In The Deathly Hallows: Part 1, after Ron became jealous of Harry and Hermione, he left the group for several weeks. However, he returned and saved Harry, overcoming his jealousy and destroying a Horcrux in the process.

When Ron was reunited with Hermione, he explained that he had tried to return to them but was unable to find them until he heard Hermione's voice call to him from the Deluminator, guiding him back to her. This scene proved that Ron and Hermione were soulmates, demonstrating the unbreakable connection they had.

1 First Kiss

In The Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Ron and Hermione traveled to the Chamber of Secrets in search of a basilisk fang to destroy a Horcrux. Upon the destruction of the Horcrux, giant violent waves form in the Chamber of Secrets, drenching Ron and Hermione.

Overcome by the moment, the two can no longer hold back and finally embrace each other in a passionate kiss, followed by laughter. After that romantic moment, there was no doubt that these two were soulmates as their long-time friendship at last culminated in a relationship that would eventually lead to marriage and a family.
