10 Quotes That Prove Cyclops Is The Best X-Man In The Fox Movies
Cyclops didn't get his fair shake in the X-Men films, but that doesn't mean he didn't have some great quotes that helped establish his character.
Cyclops was perhaps the one character in the original X-Men films that didn't get a fair shake. He was featured prominently only in the first film, before getting sidelined for a large part of the second, then killed off in the third. The First Class-era X-Men films attempted to bring him back for another chance, but the damage had already been done.
Nevertheless, Cyclops did manage to make his mark on the franchise thanks to some great quotes that spoke volumes about his character. Had he stuck around for the long haul, he would have had a lot more (which is the biggest disappointment about his presence in X-Men).
10 When Wolverine Complained About His Costume:
"Well, What Would You Prefer, Yellow Spandex?"
This quote was one of the earliest and funniest, and it came out at a time when the superhero movie genre hadn't even taken off. The first X-Men film helped push Hollywood in the direction that would eventually lead to the MCU, but it still had trouble coming to grips with its original comic book source material.
As a result, it tried to stick as close to real-life as possible. During the scene when the X-Men are heading to the Statue of Liberty, Wolverine complains about his jet-black uniform, to which Scott replies with this hilarious quote. It's spot on and definitely speaks to his character. Ironically, bland costumes are one of the things about the X-Men movies that haven't aged well.
9 When Wolverine Asked If He Should Stay Away From "His Girl":
"If I Had To Do That, She Wouldn't Be My Girl."
Scott Summers had the heart of a hero and he was also a well-tempered young man with a strong moral compass. Cyclops' relationship with Jean Grey mimics the X-Men comic books and was based on honor and respect, and he demonstrated it repeatedly by showing his love for her.
He was also a bit jealous of Wolverine putting the moves on her. When Wolverine asked if Scott was upset that he was hitting on "his girl," Scott replied with this quote, with was definitely words of wisdom. It definitely showed that he would be one of the more mature members of the team.
8 Talking To A Comatose Professor X (X-Men):
"You've Taught Me Everything In My Life That Was Ever Worth Knowing. If Anything Happens, I'll Take Care Of Them."
When Professor X tried to locate Rogue following her abduction by Magneto, he had no idea that Mystique had secretly slipped into the X-Mansion and sabotaged Cerebro. The moment he used it, it overloaded his mind and put him into a dangerous coma.
The X-Men were forced to come up with their own plan to take down Magneto, without his help. As they prepared, Scott went to speak to a comatose Professor X, speaking this quote that hinted at his comic book counterpart's status as leader of the group.
7 When Wolverine Asked About Harbor Patrol's Radar (X-Men):
"If They Have Anything That Can Pick Up Our Jet, They Deserve To Catch Us."
The X-Men had more going for them than just superpowers. They also had access to some heavy technology and a lot of funds to turn it into something useful. The result was the X-Jet, their primary mode of transportation, and far beyond what most militaries around the globe could fathom.
When Wolverine asked if the local New York authorities would be able to pick it up on radar, Cyclops responded with this quote, demonstrating full confidence in the technology that was built into the jet. To him, it wasn't even a matter up for discussion.
6 When Wolverine Returned His Motorcycle (X-Men 2):
[Wolverine] "Your Bike Needs Gas." / [Cyclops] "Fill Her Up."
Cyclops was none-too-pleased when Wolverine stole his motorcycle for a second time, in order to go up north and find links to his past as part of Weapon X. When he returned at the beginning of X2, he was greeted by Cyclops, who had basically nothing to say to him.
Wolverine casually tossed his keys and told him he needed gas, but Cyclops responded by tossing them right back at him and instructing him to fill it up. This kind of bristling rivalry mimics Wolverine's feud with Cyclops in the Marvel comic books.
5 When Wolverine Sees Cyclops Resurrected (X-Men: Days Of Future Past):
"Uh-huh. See You Later, Jean."
The relationship between Cyclops and Wolverine was never good, and the two butted heads over and over again, especially where Jean Grey was concerned. Days of Future Past is one of the best X-Men movies, for many reasons, including the fact that it undid an extremely unpopular creative decision and brought both Cyclops and Jean Grey back.
Ironically, Wolverine was overjoyed to see Cyclops and Jean Grey alive and well again, especially after the events of X-Men 3. To Cyclops, however, it was just another day at the school and another day where he couldn't stand Wolverine. When he indicated how happy he was to see Cyclops alive, all Wolverine got was this quote before he casually strolled away from the two.
4 Destroying Professor X's Favorite Tree (X-Men: Apocalypse):
[Cyclops] "Does That Mean I'm Expelled?"/ [Professor X] "Oh, On The Contrary - You're Enrolled."
The Scott Summers of the First Class-era X-Men followed a much different path than the first three films. It was this movie that first introduced him as a mutant who could not control his powers and therefore entered Xavier's school to learn how.
After demonstrating his powers by destroying Charles Xavier's favorite tree, he uttered this question, thinking it was all over. He was relieved when Xavier followed up by indicating how impressed he was and that he was a shoo-in for enrollment.
3 When He First Gets His Visor (X-Men: Apocalypse):
"I Hope People Don't Start Calling Me Cyclops."
It wouldn't be Cyclops without a joke to poke fun at the character, and X-Men: Apocalypse was ready for it. After getting his signature visor as a battle-ready replacement for his ruby-tinted sunglasses, it was obvious that someone was going to bring it up.
Scott beat them all to the punch by dropping this quote. It was a self-deprecating way of heading pranksters off at the pass, but secretly, he probably liked the moniker, seeing as how it stuck for years to come.
2 Defending Jean Grey (X-Men: Dark Phoenix):
"She Didn't Know What She Was Doing. Jean Lost Control. But She's Still Jean. She's Still Our Friend."
Scott wasn't just a born leader, but also a compassionate and heroic teammate who thought the best of his fellow X-Men. When Jean Grey succumbed to the destructive powers of the Dark Phoenix, Scott was quick to rush to her defense. This sentiment is what made their relationship one of the best in the X-Men comics.
This quote summed up not just his personal feelings for her, but also a logical view that she was not behaving like her normal self. She was still their friend and deserved to be helped, especially in a time when she was at her most vulnerable.
1 Threatening Magneto (X-Men: Dark Phoenix):
"If You Touch Her, I Will F***ing Kill You!"
Despite all the mayhem Jean caused while under the influence of the Phoenix force, Cyclops refused to give up on her. When he learned that Beast had joined with Magneto to kill her, he co-led a strike team to stop them. Charles tried to reason with Magneto, who was all-too-willing to go back to his old ways.
When he made it clear that he wasn't going to listen, Scott stepped forward and delivered this one-two punch, which was a direct threat in more ways than one. Cyclops meant exactly what he said and he was prepared to follow through with it.
