10 Clean Triple H Losses We Forgot About

Triple H had a reputation for not wanting to put many wrestlers over in his career. The backstage influence added fuel to the fire during Triple H’s run as a top star after entering a relationship with Stephanie McMahon. Triple H claimed that he didn’t have any more input than the average main eventer at the time, but history would prove that false.

The entire career of Triple H only sees a short list of names scoring clean victories over him. Quite a few names have been overlooked or forgotten due to how long Triple H’s career has gone. Batista, John Cena and The Rock are some names everyone remembers beating the legend. However, the following clean victories over Triple H rarely get discussed today.

10 Triple H Vs Ric Flair (Taboo Tuesday 2005)

The rivalry between Triple H and Ric Flair in 2005 finally ended Evolution after Triple H already feuded with Randy Orton and Batista. Flair turning face in Triple H’s absence led to Triple H betraying his mentor to set up a bloody Steel Cage match at Taboo Tuesday 2005.

WWE wanted the feud to last a couple of months, so Flair needed the victory here. Both men used the weapons and dirty tricks expected in a cage match. The even playing field made Flair’s victory a clean one and arguably the last massive win of his career.

9 Triple H Vs Brock Lesnar (SummerSlam 2012)

Brock Lesnar’s WWE return in 2012 set up a dream match that never took place in his first run. Triple H was always on the Raw brand when Brock became a top star mostly working on SmackDown. The return allowed WWE to promote this as a dream match for SummerSlam 2012.

WWE already had a lot of criticism for having Lesnar lose his first match back against John Cena. Triple H thankfully did the clean job when selling the pain of Brock’s submissions. Many fans forget about this since WWE foolishly continued the feud the following year with mostly negative results.

8 Triple H Vs Alex Wright (Starrcade 1994)

Jean Paul Levesque was the name used by Triple H during the time of his WCW match against Alex Wright. Starrcade 1994 remained WCW’s biggest show of the year, and both young wrestlers were given a great spot on the card.

Wright was considered the bigger prospect and actually had support from the booking committee to one day become a main eventer. Triple H did the job cleanly putting over Wright and left WCW shortly after for his real dream in WWE.

7 Triple H Vs The Ultimate Warrior (WrestleMania 12)

The early years of Triple H often get overlooked when he used the Hunter Hearst Helmsley name. It felt like the shift of the Triple H era in 1997 was when his career truly began. Ultimate Warrior squashing him at WrestleMania 12 is rarely talked about anymore when looking at Triple H’s WM history.

Old interviews saw Triple H burying Warrior for not letting him get any offense in before the decisive loss. Triple H being the one to make peace with Warrior and bringing him back to WWE made it easier for fans to forget about their past.

6 Triple H Vs Ahmed Johnson (Raw: June 24, 1996)

Another interesting clean loss deeper in Triple H’s past came during an episode of Monday Night Raw. Ahmed Johnson and Triple H were each viewed as future stars for WWE in the New Generation Era when meeting in this match.

The Intercontinental Championship was on the line just one night after Johnson won it from Goldust. WWE built up Triple H as a viable threat, but he did the clean job for the new champ. Johnson was viewed as a potential top face and that was shown here.

5 Triple H Vs Goldberg (Unforgiven 2003)

WWE placed Goldberg in a feud with Triple H that ultimately killed his momentum when joining in 2003. Fans wanted to see Goldberg dominate in the same manner as WCW with at least a winning streak going to the end of that year.

Triple H pinning Goldberg at the end of an Elimination Chamber match killed his appeal taking a loss that quickly. Goldberg lost so much momentum that fans didn’t even care much when he cleanly defeated Triple H for the World Championship in a singles match. The title reign ended rather quickly with WWE putting the title back on Triple H.

4 Triple H Vs Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase (Raw: August 3, 2009)

Triple H deserves credit for helping Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase look good when they were in Legacy when he feuded with Randy Orton. WWE placed them in a more direct feud when Orton moved past Triple H to feud with John Cena.

Rhodes and DiBiase scored a decisive win in a handicap match over Triple H on Raw when Cody pinned the legend. Even thought it was a 2 vs 1 match, fans were stunned to see Triple H take the pin. WWE did this to set up Shawn Michaels return to reform D-Generation X for the tag feud.

3 Triple H Vs Seth Rollins (WrestleMania 34)

Seth Rollins’ feud with Triple H didn’t have the lasting impact that both men hoped when coming up with the program. Triple H turning on Rollins happened in September 2016, but they didn’t pick up the feud again until early 2017.

Rollins suffering an injury added more doubt to hurt the overall storyline. WWE did get to book the match at WrestleMania 34 with Seth scoring a clean victory over Triple H. Unfortunately, it became a forgotten match in both men’s recent history.

2 Triple H Vs Shelton Benjamin (Raw: March 29, 2004)

WWE came up with a bold idea to make Shelton Benjamin relevant from the start of a singles push after getting drafted to Raw. Former World Champion Triple H faced Benjamin in his first match on the new show after ending his tag run with Charlie Haas.

Benjamin rolled up Triple H for the victory and had the audience going wild in support of the shocking upset. Some people may argue that Chris Benoit stopping Ric Flair from interfering distracted Triple H, but no one helped Shelton get the upper hand on Triple H.

1 Triple H Vs Sheamus (Extreme Rules 2010)

Triple H did everything possible to make Sheamus look great during their Extreme Rules 2010 match. The more memorable match came at WrestleMania 26 with Triple H scoring a victory over the newcomer in the middle of the show. Triple H still wanted Sheamus to look good since they were close friends.

A rematch was made to write Triple H off television with Sheamus viciously getting the better of him in the Extreme Rules match. Sheamus hitting three Brogue Kicks for the win led to Triple H being stretchered out and off television for nine months. No one remembers this because Triple H squashed him the following year when returning to challenge The Undertaker.
