However, there were some negatives or what if scenarios that made fans wish some things were different. The mistakes with Page proved that even successful wrestlers have had their fair share of missed chances or disappointing booking. WCW had this same issue with many other wrestlers. DDP witnessed the following mistakes made by WCW in his career.
10 Turning Him Heel Before WCW Championship Win
WCW finally decided to make Diamond Dallas Page the WCW Championship heading into Spring Stampede 1999 in a fatal four-way against Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair and Sting. However, it was the return of Page a few weeks before the show to make it come off strange.

DDP cut a promo leaning towards heel by running down the face wrestlers. Fans were mixed, but most still cheered when Page won the title since they wanted that moment for over a year. DDP turning heel right after completely ruined what fans wanted from his first title reign.
9 Dropping Title Early To Kevin Nash
The WCW Championship reign of Diamond Dallas Page turned into a disappointment as a heel. Page lost the belt to Sting on Nitro in a shocking title change, but DDP won it back later that night. The rest of the title reign didn’t last long enough to leave a lasting memory.
Page only spent a total of 28 days as champion after winning the gold before he dropped it to Kevin Nash. WCW didn’t trust DDP to have a credible title reign as a heel and pivoted towards programs of Nash facing Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan.
8 Everything David Arquette Related
Diamond Dallas Page was tasked with being the person most associated with David Arquette. The movie Ready to Rumble saw Page as the biggest WCW name in a leading wrestler role. WCW tried to get more success out of that partnership by having Arquette appear on WCW TV with DDP.
Everyone remembers how badly the decision to make Arquette WCW Champion was, but it came at the expense of Page in some ways. Arquette won the title in a tag match, even though his partner DDP entered the match as WCW Champion. Page being content with his actor friend winning the belt was a bit outlandish.
7 Everyone Turning On Him To Join New Blood
The biggest WCW storyline of 2000 featured the New Blood forming to feud with the Millionaire’s Club. WCW used the rivalry of Jeff Jarrett and Diamond Dallas Page to crown a new WCW Champion after all titles were vacated with the reset.
Kimberly Page turned on DDP to join the New Blood as well for a bigger heel push. This was one of many heel turns against Page in a short time. Kimberly, Eric Bischoff, David Arquette and Chris Kanyon all betrayed DDP to make him look quite foolish as a character.
6 Never Main Eventing Starrcade
Starrcade was WCW’s version of WrestleMania and everyone with star power wanted to main event that night. Diamond Dallas Page unfortunately never got to accomplish that goal since names like Hulk Hogan, Sting, Goldberg and Kevin Nash all were picked instead.

The final Starrcade PPV in 2000 may have been the best chance for Page to main event, but WCW had him in a tag program teaming with Nash. DDP did main event WCW’s second-biggest event Halloween Havoc and most other WCW PPVs at least once.
5 Losing Randy Savage Feud At End
WCW made Diamond Dallas Page a star by placing him in a tremendous rivalry against Randy Savage. Page turning down the New World Order led to Savage wanting to work with him as his main rival moving forward in the story.
A huge win for DDP in their first PPV match made fans look at him differently since it was his first massive win over a legend. Many fans forget that Savage actually won the next two PPV matches and the overall feud. WCW would have ended the story perfectly if Page won the third and final PPV match.
4 Losing Loser Leaves Town Match To The Booty Man
The earlier years of Diamond Dallas Page as a wrestler in WCW led to some strange feuds. Johnny B. Badd was his main rival until choosing to leave for WWE when his contract ended. The Booty Man replaced Marc Mero and became the new feud for DDP with Kimberly Page also involved.
Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake received yet another failed gimmick change with The Booty Man having no real logic behind it. Page lost a Loser Leaves Town match to Booty Man and was off television for a short while before eventually returning.
3 Not Making The Jersey Triad An Upper Card Act
Diamond Dallas Page was a rare WCW talent to work with wrestlers all over the card. Unfortunately, WCW didn’t try to elevate the mid-carders to work with Page to his level. The Jersey Triad showed that when DDP united with Chris Kanyon and Bam Bam Bigelow to form a faction.
WCW used the Jersey Triad in the tag team division and rarely had them working with main eventers. Even when DDP had the occasional match with bigger names, Kanyon and Bam Bam felt like secondary players behind him. The overall team run was still a great time due to their tremendous chemistry.
2 Not Booking Major Goldberg Rematch
WCW witnessed Goldberg having arguably his best match of the infamous undefeated streak against Diamond Dallas Page. Halloween Havoc 1998 featured one of the greatest WCW PPV main events when Goldberg won to retain the WCW Championship.
Even though he lost the match, Page felt like a bigger star for such a great performance. WCW left Goldberg off the card at the following PPV and had DDP face Bret Hart for the United States Championship. A rematch would have been huge for the audience that wanted more from the two.
1 Never Booking A Singles PPV Match Vs Hulk Hogan
Diamond Dallas Page’s feud with the New World Order is remembered for his segments with The Outsiders and matches vs Randy Savage. However, there was a lengthy program between DDP and Hulk Hogan throughout the summer of 1998.
The two faced off in multiple PPV main event tag matches with celebrities Jay Leno, Dennis Rodman and Karl Malone also involved. Unfortunately, WCW never booked a big singles match to pay off their personal issues. A noteworthy singles match came on Nitro with the New World Order interfering to help Hogan deliver a beat down rather than provide a conclusion to the program.
