10 Best Matches From WrestleMania Weekend (Not From WWE)
From Thursday, March 31, to Sunday, April 3, WrestleMania Weekend took over the Dallas, Texas area with many wrestling shows. While it is WrestleMania Weekend thanks to WWE's big event, wrestling promotions always flock to the host city of the "Grandest Stage of Them All" and provide some great alternatives to the WWE's biggest show of the year.

For those that may have missed out on some events due to the packed schedule, these matches from non-WWE shows were the best ones that every wrestling fan should go out of their way to watch!
10 AR Fox vs Blake Christian, Joey Janela's Spring Break 6: Part 1
Kicking off WrestleMania Weekend on Thursday night, Joey Janela's staple Spring Break show made its return in 2022, offering two nights of shows as a two-part event. While the second night would feature the iconic Clusterf*ck Rumble match, Part 1 of Spring Break 6 would see a genuinely great singles match between AR Fox and Blake Christian.
It still feels weird looking back at Blake Christian's brief time on NXT 2.0 alongside real-life girlfriend Cora Jade, where he was presented as a consistently put-down loser, and is now back on the independent scene getting great receptions from every crowd he is in front of. This match against AR Fox was a great start to the weekend for Christian, who featured on a number of different shows!
9 Mia Yim vs Athena, Mark Hitchcock Memorial Super Show
December 28, 2020. That was the date of Mia Yim's last wrestling match before her return to the independent scene during WrestleMania Weekend. After being called up to WWE's main roster as a part of Retribution, Yim would fail to find any semblance of success before eventually being released. Thankfully, things appear to be turning around for the former HBIC of NXT.
Facing off former NXT peer, Athena, at the Mark Hitchcock Memorial Super Show, Yim would make her return outside WWE in a very solid match for the two women, in front of a receptive crowd as well. For fans of both Mia Yim and Athena, or those wanting to see what either woman can do outside WWE, check this match out as soon as possible!
8 Chris Sabin vs Jay White, Multiverse of Matches
Coming towards the end of a very, very loaded Friday night, Impact Wrestling's big WrestleMania Weekend event, the Multiverse of Matches show with a number of cross-promotional bouts. While Jay White is a New Japan talent, he has been appearing on Impact as of late, and this match followed the latest match between Bullet Club and the Motor City Machine Guns, with White taking on Chris Sabin in singles action.

The two men would put on a proper New Japan, main event-style match, starting a bit slowly and building towards a selection of big spots, and it worked excellently. The crowd was fully invested, the two men showed off some great chemistry, and they delivered a huge finish to this first-time singles match.
7 Jay Lethal vs Lee Moriarty, ROH Supercard of Honor
With the franchise player of Ring of Honor making his return to the company during this event, Jay Lethal would take on one of the rising stars of wrestling, and a man that Lethal put over at Final Battle as one of the future stars of the industry, and someone he would want to face.
The two would meet at Supercard of Honor, and while the story was all about Lethal, Moriarty would come out of this match with another star-making performance, similar to his match against Bryan Danielson.
6 Jon Moxley vs Biff Busick, Bloodsport 8
Featuring on one of the first shows of WrestleMania Weekend, GCW would put on another one of Josh Barnett's Bloodsport events, with this being the eighth edition of Bloodsport. Jon Moxley would make his return to the GCW staple, and Biff Busick, coming off a run in WWE NXT, would face off against one half of the Blackpool Combat Club.
With lots of eyes on this match, this would end up being a star-making performance for Busick, taking the AEW star to his limits before getting put down in defeat. The crowd exploded hard in Busick's honor, reacting greatly to the fighting spirit that he displayed in the match.
5 Mike Bailey vs Jay White, NJPW Lonestar Shootout
Easily the most mouth-watering match-up on New Japan's Wrestlecon show, Lonestar Shootout, Mike Bailey would take on the leader of Bullet Club, Jay White, in a marquee singles match. This match was great, as expected based on the two talents within, and coming out of it, one can only hope that Speedball will appear more on NJPW programming!
More impressively, White and Bailey would both wrestle at Multiverse of Matches shortly after this event, and both men would have show-stealing performances on that Impact Wrestling event in their respective matches.
4 Bandido vs Jonathan Gresham, ROH Supercard of Honor
Serving as the main event for the relaunch event of Ring of Honor, Jonathan Gresham took on Bandido in a main event clash with the winner becoming the Undisputed Ring of Honor World Champion. For those who have not seen Bandido wrestle before, this served as a great jumping off point, while also showcasing why Gresham is one of the best wrestlers alive right now.

While the match was great, the post-match angle will undoubtedly be what remains a focal point when looking back at this show, as a freshly-turned Jay Lethal would attack Jonathan Gresham alongside Sonjay Dutt, leading to the shocking return of Samoa Joe, who would come to the aid of the ROH World Champion. A very exciting end to the proper reboot of Ring of Honor!
3 Mike Bailey vs Alex Shelley, Multiverse of Matches
While Multiverse of Matches was an overall fun show, nothing could compare to the match that Mike Bailey and Alex Shelley put together against one another. With Speedball being one of the most recent additions to the roster, Shelley, being the legend that he is, put him over big-time.
For those still unfamiliar with Mike Bailey, this is one of the best matches that one could what in order to be introduced to the star who can finally work in the United States once more. It is also just a damn good professional wrestling match, and one that everyone should seek out.
2 Mike Bailey vs Bandido, Mark Hitchcock Memorial Super Show
If it was not clear, Mike Bailey was the performer of the weekend, the MVP across the board. Delivering the most consistently great matches from any wrestler during the weekend, Speedball wrestled a lot and somehow delivered in each encounter. During the Mark Hitchcock Memorial Super Show, he would face off against one of the other most impressive men on the independent scene: Bandido!
These two fast-paced stars stole the show despite sharing the card with Mia Yim vs Athena, Minoru Suzuki vs Biff Busick, Tomohiro Ishii vs Timothy Thatcher, and a huge six-man tag match.
1 FTR vs The Briscoes, ROH Supercard of Honor
A dream match months in the making, FTR vs The Briscoes has been on the docket since Final Battle, where FTR first made their presence felt in Ring of Honor. By the time the match was actually taking place, it felt almost otherworldly, with one of the most heated, fired up crowds in some time for a tag-team match. Somehow, some way, the four men managed to either meet or exceed all expectations, delivering one of the best tag team matches of all time in their first-ever meeting.
For fans of FTR, The Briscoes, or just wrestling, this is the must-watch match of the entire WrestleMania Weekend, between non-WWE and WWE shows alike.
