10 Best Canadian Fighters In UFC History
The UFC has seen no shortage of incredible fighters from every corner of the planet. While it’s easy to point to some of the biggest stars in the company's history as champions for their respective countries, almost every country has a handful of excellent fighters many fans may not know.Related: 10 UFC Fighters Who Showed Up In MoviesThere has been a number of unique fighters that have made their way from Canada to mix it up with the best the MMA world has to offer. It’s likely that one name springs to mind above all others when thinking about Canadian UFC stars, but that doesn’t mean there haven’t been other star-level fighters.
10 Nick Ring
Nick Ring didn’t have the longest career with the UFC, but he made quite the impact in a short amount of time. After a performance that earned the respect of Tito Ortiz, Ring made the most of his time on the hit show The Ultimate Fighter. Despite an injury that kept him from the finale, Ring had done quite well.
In his UFC career, Ring faced a number of significant issues from illnesses to being pulled out of a match. Though he didn’t have the best record with the company, many fans look back on his dominant Ultimate Fighter performances fondly.
9 Mark Hominick
Another Canadian, who while not having the best MMA record, earned plenty of honors for the wars he had with his opponents both in the UFC and elsewhere. Hominick debuted in the UFC against Yves Edwards in a bout that he’d win via submission.

After some time with World Extreme Cagefighting, Hominick returned to the UFC but struggled to pick up any momentum against some of the best competition the world of MMA had to offer at the time. Regardless, he did manage to pick up the fight of the night multiple times.
8 Mark Bocek
Mark Bocek was a fighter that Dana White believed had the potential to do great things in MMA. Despite a run filled with plenty of ups and downs, Bocek managed to put on some stellar performances in losses against competition as strong as Jim Miller.
His stumble out of the gate against Frankie Edgar seemed to keep him from creating any real upward momentum in the company, but that didn’t keep Bocek from competing hard. While his MMA career spanned a decade, his occasionally sporadic appearances may have worked against him.
7 T.J. Grant
A competitor who spent a large portion of their MMA career outside of the UFC, T.J. Grant managed to pick up 21 wins in his 26 fight career. While almost all of his bouts in the UFC ended up going the distance, Grant was a submission machine in the prior section of his career.
He managed to earn Knockout of the Night twice and a Fight of the Night honor in a fight against Evan Dunham. Whether or not his fights ended in an exciting fashion, Grant always managed to put on a show for the fans.
6 Carlos Newton
A former UFC Welterweight Champion in his own right, Carlos Newton was a serious threat to the division. Newton’s win for the title was against UFC hall of fame inductee Pat Miletich back in 2001.

The only reason Newton ended up losing his title was due to the infamous situation surrounding the knockout in his match against Matt Hughes. After a serious fall for both men, Newton was ruled as unconscious, making Hughes the winner, despite Hughes’ clear confusion. His MMA career would continue, but not in as dominant a fashion.
5 Rory MacDonald
Any MMA fan should be aware of Rory MacDonald for his three-fight of the night honors and also a performance of the night honor from the UFC. Before he even made it to the UFC, MacDonald already had an impressive nine wins with zero losses.
MacDonald had a great run in the UFC, only losing to high-quality fighters like Carlos Condit, Robbie Lawler, and Stephen Thompson, winning nine of his 13 fights with the company. He was even bestowed the title of best Canadian fighter in 2012 by Top MMA News.
4 Jason MacDonald
Once he made it to the UFC, Jason MacDonald kicked his performances into a whole new gear. While he tended to trade wins and losses from time to time, he managed to snag three submissions of the night honors and a knockout of the night honor.
Despite impressive performances in most of his wins, MacDonald struggled to maintain his momentum while he was with the UFC. With 25 wins in his 41 bouts throughout his career, MacDonald was always sure to give every fight everything he had.
3 Sam Stout

With over 30 different unique bouts in his MMA career, Sam Stout had 20 of those bouts with the UFC. The average UFC fan may have mostly heard of him in passing, but it’s safe to say that they missed out because Stout earned the fight of the night on multiple occasions.
Stout managed to pick up a knockout of the night against Yves Edward at that point of his career as well. Despite being able to put on wars for the fans, Stout was yet another fighter who had a habit of taking a loss after most of his wins.
2 Patrick Cote

While Patrick Cote never won a title during his long run with the UFC, he managed to put on plenty of excellent fights against some of the best fighters in the world. For MMA fans that may not be familiar, Cote faced fighters like Anderson Silva, Cung Le, Stephen Thompson, and Donald Cerrone.
With two knockouts of the night and a fight of the night, Patrick Cote only seemed to come up short against fighters that find themselves near the top of MMA fans’ greatest fighters lists.
1 Georges St-Pierre
It shouldn’t be a surprise to any UFC fan that GSP is one of the greatest Canadian UFC fighters of all time. The man held titles in two different divisions and only ever lost two fights in his career, both of which he avenged.
Calling GSP great is a bit of an understatement considering he dominated an entire incredibly competitive division during his prime in the UFC. To this day, GSP still holds numerous records which includes the most wins in the welterweight division at 19 wins.
